The municipality of Petra has lived off its agriculture and sandstone quarries for centuries. Even today crops occupy the lowlands, which alternate with small elevations to form a landscape of rolling hills around a typical Mallorca village.
Pollensa
Pollenca sits at the eastern end of the Tramuntana mountain range where the terrain turns into coastal flatland. This is an ancient town where a maze of pleasant narrow streets leads to a vast main square full of tasteful café and restaurant terraces. To the north is the impressive Calvary Hill, 365 stone steps lined with cypress trees leading to a hilltop pilgrimage chapel. The views from the top look out across the town towards the coast and are certainly worth the hike!.
Porreres
The area of Porreres is well known for its exquisite dried apricots. Touring the village, which has been there for centuries an air of 'days gone by' can still be perceived.
Portals Nous
One of the more exclusive residential areas to the south of Mallorca with beautiful villas in the Costa den Blanes hillside overlooking the prestige yacht marina (Puerto Portals) and the bay of Palma. The super rich live and park their boats here, enjoying some of the best bars & restaurants on the island. Next door is a 'cannot miss' dolphin show at Marineland.

Hacia el norte está la impresionante Colina del Calvario, 365 escalones alineados con cipreses que conducen a una capilla de peregrinaje en la cima de la colina. Desde la cima la vista es a través del pueblo hacia la costa y, por cierto, ¡compensa la caminata!
Porreres
El área de Porerres es bien conocida por sus exquisitos damascos secos. De turismo por la aldea, la que ha estado allí por siglos, aún se puede percibir un aire de tiempos pasados.

Una de las áreas residenciales más exclusivas hacia el sur de Mallorca, con hermosas villas sobre la ladera de la Costa den Blanes, con vista a la prestigiosa marina para yates (Puerto Portals) y la bahía de Palma. She had not, I suppose, met anyone like him before. This rather priggish young man, with his devout gentility, his airs and manners, his music and ambitions, his charm, bright talk, and undeniable good looks, overwhelmed her as soon as she saw him. So she fell in love with him immediately, and remained in love for ever. And herself being comely, sensitive, and adoring, she attracted my father also. And so he married her. And so later he left her - with his children and some more of her own.
When he'd gone, she brought us to the village and waited. She waited for thirty years. I don't think she ever knew what had made him desert her, though the reasons seemed clear enough. She was too honest, too natural for this frightened man; too remote from his tidy laws. She was, after all, a country girl; disordered, hysterical, loving. She was muddled and mischievous as a chimney-jackdaw, she made her nest of rags and jewels, was happy in the sunlight, squawked loudly at danger, pried and was insatiably curious, forgot when to eat or ate all day, and sang when sunsets were red. She lived by the easy laws of the hedgerow, loved the world, and made no plans, had a quick holy eye for natural wonders and couldn't have kept a neat house for her life. What my father wished for was something quite different, something she could never give him - the protective order of an unimpeachable suburbia, which was what he got in the end.
The three or four years Mother spent with my father she fed on for the rest of her life. Her happiness at that time was something she guarded as though it must ensure his eventual return. She would talk about it almost in awe, not that it had ceased but that it had happened at all.

Source text - English In December 2001, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights convened a workshop on “Indigenous Peoples, Private Sector Natural Resource, Energy and Mining Companies and Human Rights.” The physical format of this workshop was indicative of the general atmosphere surrounding the issue: Indigenous representatives were lined up on one side of the room, companies were lined up along the other, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) sat in the middle. Governments chose not to attend........
At the core of the training is the concept of free, prior, and informed consent (see box, right). While many governments refuse to acknowledge that Indigenous peoples have this right (the right to approve, or reject, a project in their territory), it has been recognized in international law, and national governments are slowly coming around.

Source text - English Based on the ideas, modernization can be understood as a development process by which a country breaks from its traditional past - especially the traditional methods of organizing and producing goods and services - and adopts modern technology for industrialization, improves education and healthcare, and experiences rising standards of living. For a long time economists made policies that were supposed to bring about such modernization through the effects of higher industrial and economic growth. Typically, modernization was interpreted as adoption of western advanced technology and know-how to set up manufacturing industries, improve infrastructure, and increase exports. Actually, it also involves reshaping political and legal institutions to ensure a democratic and stable environment that respects individual rights and fair representation.
Understandably, poverty reduction is the main objective of economic development policies. Such policies would include measures focused on the rural population to improve healthcare, raise agricultural productivity via mechanization, the use of fertilizers and irrigation, provide better roads and education
