Report from  Lisa Davey
The table was booked for 15 "strangers" for 7 p.m. By 7.30, at least 8 had turned up and were sipping their drinks and chatting animatedly with their new colleagues. By 8 p.m., the gentle balmy summer breeze was threatening to launch the parasols in Mary Poppins style, so we retired to a table within.

(The restaurant management was excellent - having laid up a table for us both inside and out. Thank you Browns!)

A few more people arrived and orders for food were taken. What did these "strangers" have in common? All had heard of the powwow via the Proz site; many were based in Bath, others had made the trip from Bristol and Chippenham and another all the way from Exeter! Many European language combinations were represented: French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Ukraininan, Czech, Bosnian, Russian, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish - but appropriately for the day the Football World Cup kicked off - German seemed to be the predominant language.

Conversations ranged from how to become a translator, where to find jobs, the kind of jobs we get, the ones we like, the ones we don't like and many other subjects besides.

Business cards were exchanged and e-mail addresses swopped and there was enthusiasm to meet up again for a picnic in the park in August. Look out for the announcement on the upcoming powwow page if you would like to join us!

I'm not sure if postings here still get sent out to the members, but I'll give it a go anyway: I just wanted to remind everyone of the event Anna George was talking about at this Powwow - ITI Devon & Cornwall's 20th Anniversary Event in the West Country. It is open to non-ITI members and I have already signed up! More info here: http://www.iti.org.uk/uploadedFiles/events/Go%20West%20Brochure%201.pdf

Just thought I'd post Lisa's ad for the next powwow here to let everyone know about it:

"Bring something to eat and drink plus a little something to share with others. We'll meet under the 5 oak trees near the bandstand from 2.30 p.m. There is Crazy Golf nearby if you don't want to talk shop all afternoon. If the weather is a bit dodgy, we can decamp to the cafe (but I doubt they'll let you eat your own food in there!) Hope to see you."

I will definately try to make it! :oD
