My guess is that the use is narrowed by restriction to mammals who only eat meat, not by restricting the eaten matter. Meat remains intended. Would those mammals not eat poultry or fish if they lay a claw on it?

thank you Mona, that was "loud thinking" trying to figure out the difference between meat and flesh in this particular definition to avoid using ��� and ���
