German term

Prüfzentrum

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general) Meeting Minutes
"- Hinsichtlich des Produktes ABC wurde von Herrn X das Problem aufgeworfen, dass in Dänemark aus unterschiedlichen ***Prüfzentren*** unterschiedliche Ergebnisse hervorgegangen sind und dies Probleme auf dem Markt mit sich bringt."

From the minutes of a meeting about a company that makes technical products (plasters, cleaners etc.). Hence my classifying it as a Tech/Engineering question and not a Bus/Financial one.

For some reason, no dictionary seems to have heard of Prüfzentrum. I find this truly bizarre, as the word is in frequent enough use. I often see it in medical contexts, where it tends to mean something like "trial site". But here a cleaning product is being referred to, so this involves testing a technical/chemical product rather than a medical drug.

There are one or two "obvious" solutions, but I don't trust obvious solutions (although sometimes the obvious solution is actually the correct one!). "Test centre" seems to be used more in academic contexts than medical or technical ones. "Testing centre" is perhaps OK and does seem to get a goodly number of hits. But I would like to be absolutely certain, and it's about time the KOG did what the dictionaries are failing to do and provide a proper translation for this word! TIA for your help.

laboratory

...since you seem reluctant to use 'test centre'.

agree Claire Cox : although I don't see anything wrong with "test centres" either // Only if you're worried about the points - which I suspect you're not, somehow....

Thanks, Claire. I suspect that someone will post 'test centre' and be showered with 'agrees'. Do you think I should officially incorporate it into this answer?
agree Max Masutin : randomly or not, the order I used for optional search terms prefers (Material/s)Testing Laboratory: "material+testing"+centre|center|institute|laboratory

Thanks. Your additional wording is indeed an enhancement. In the context of the paragraph as quoted, I think the basic term might suffice.
agree aruna yallapragada : testing should be included to differentiate it from research and development

Consider it done.
agree BrigitteHilgner : Why not - since "test centre" does not seem acceptable.

(material) testing institute

I offer this proposal based on the Swiss "Materialprüfungsanstalt"
where technical products would be tested

agree Lancashireman : Though in NZ I think they still use the British spelling.
