state-dependent variation model/adjustment
Although I may have not nearly such a complete understanding of the matter as Tagir does, I did not see the actual translation in his explanation.
I do not insist on the correctness of my answer above, however I've encountered many references to the state-dependent term, as well as to the optimization method which it appears to be (this time, IMHO)

Most of the links with the aforementioned term are in PDF files, so I can\'t quote them here.

Also - state-based variation approach
I see that Tagir has \"technique of variation with respect to desired state,\" which is a literal rendition of the method, unless it\'s an official term. Is it, Tagir? The inquiring minds want to know:)

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
Comment: "Thanks. I've found a description of this method. It has to do with the variation of the total energy with respect to state. Unfortunately, cannot find a generally adopted term for this method, if any"

To obtain the equilibrium equations, the boundary conditions, and elasticity relations the mixed Reisner verational principle was used combined with the technique of variation with respect to desired (sought-for) state.
next
Assuming in accordance with the technique of variation with respect to desired state that the first approximation funcations are known, one (or we) varies (vary) the complete energy of (the - I do not know the whole context) shell with respect to displacements and obtain a solution for the self-balances state, which refines the components of the nonlinear dynamical system of the first approximation.

a/the method of adaptation to specific conditions
This seems to be the essence of the idea

: it is, indeed, the essence - just the established name of the approach (assuming the name has been established) is missing
