French term
hayon coté de caisse
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Automotive / Cars & Trucks
I don't have much context, I'm afraid -it comes in a list headed 'elements de carrosserie'.
I know hayon is a rear hatch (according to termium), but the 'coté de caisse' bit? My instinct is simply to leave it out...
TIA

tailgate, body side
On automobile doc's that I've worked on the past "coté de caisse" or "coté caisse" was translated as body side. This was in the customer's central database.
The idea they may be trying to get across is that you are looking at the tailgate from the body side and not from the outside

Comment: "Thank you, this is what I used following Bourth's suggestion of the missing comma!"

side tailgate
I would go for that as it may refer to a special commercial vehicle with a large tailgate/ tailboard on one side.

: concept is right, I think, but I have a problem with side tailgate, since a tailgate is always at the back

Shall I take it the missing comma had struck again?
