French term

hayon coté de caisse

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
I don't have much context, I'm afraid -it comes in a list headed 'elements de carrosserie'.
I know hayon is a rear hatch (according to termium), but the 'coté de caisse' bit? My instinct is simply to leave it out...
TIA

Oops, Freudian slip. I believe sex should be kept in the house!

(or both)? I have had it reported to me that ProZ rumour once had it that I was the homesexual variety of the gender I am not.
Shall I take it the missing comma had struck again?

By Jove, Bourth strikes again! Give the man a medal for services to the profession...

tailgate? If it's at the side, then "tail" can't appear anywhere in the translation. There seems to be no catchy alternative to "tailgate", and "sidegate" just doesn't hack it. In the ref. below, they refer simply to "doors".

Punctuation? No chance it should really be hayon [comma] côté de caisse? Hayon by definition is at the back; anything similar at the side is a gullwing door! What sort of vehicle? Car, truck (and don't accuse me of enjoying a rant, please ;-) ).

tailgate, body side

On automobile doc's that I've worked on the past "coté de caisse" or "coté caisse" was translated as body side. This was in the customer's central database.
The idea they may be trying to get across is that you are looking at the tailgate from the body side and not from the outside

side tailgate

I would go for that as it may refer to a special commercial vehicle with a large tailgate/ tailboard on one side.

neutral Travelin Ann : concept is right, I think, but I have a problem with side tailgate, since a tailgate is always at the back
5 hrs
then side gate or side hatch
