Spanish term

en tu propia selva

Spanish to English Social Sciences Photography/Imaging (& Graphic Arts)
This is for an arty photographic studio website. They do headshots, portfolios pictures, that kind of thing - for artists, politicians, businesspeople. But they stress the artiness of the whole thing very much. Lots of verbosity and flowery artspeak. So, my question is, what is the "selva" reference here? Is there some word play or cultural reference I am missing, or is he simply saying "in your own forest"?

"Es el único servicio a mano que te descubre tu fascinante lado humano en tu propia selva."

Jenni Lukac (X) Jul 26, 2011:
Ben, you sure do get some good ones. My take on this is that the writer wants to play with the dynamics between the wild and straight-laced sides of his clients' personalities. In a certain sense I think that the "selva" is one's own turf, but that way too bland for this. Habitat might be a place to start, but obviously he's trying to strike a "me Tarzan, you king of jungle" note here. I'll sleep on it!
Joss Heywood Jul 26, 2011:
jungle? I would imagine that it's an oblique reference to the human jungle - it makes more sense than forest anyway.

out of the crowd/habitat*

I really can't see a literal translation selling these services. (Frankly I don't see how the Spanish helps either). I'd try for something slightly on the cute side, but that makes a bit more sense in English (I'd also say "medium" instead of services and pump up that these people are masters at their craft.): The only medium that pulls you out of your habitat and shows the world the unique person you really are / The only medium that highlights the real you among a sea of faces /a way to express your own special identity in the world around you. Anyway, it's worth making an effort to convince the client that another tack would be better for reaching an English speaking public!
