Mammography
In a description of a 2D mammograpy image:
"L'échographie complémentaire était normale, et nous avons donc conclu a une simple superposition, une image construite, et cette patiente a un bilan normal."
I gather this is a false-positive finding due to overlap of distinct regions of the breast on a 2-D image. What would be the corresponding term in English? Is it simply "artifact" or is there a more specific term?
TIA!

artifact
In fact, "image construite" suggests superimposition, a superimposed image, but it would be redundant to repeat it. I think "artifact" would be fine here. Without knowing exactly what was the cause ("ghosting" for example),I think you need to remain vague.

Note from asker:
Thank you, the references are helpful! The term comes again in other sentences where "superimposed image" might make sense as well, but in this sentence, "artifact" sounds better to avoid repetition. |
