odchamianie sprowadzamy do uspoleczniania sie w towarzystwie - IMO makes sense, jednak propozycja Joanny jest dowcipniejsza, kultura i picie wodki pieknie sie tu komponuja.

Actully, my SECOND answer was "get the boor out of gbur." Obviously, it was a play on words boor and gbur = cham, since Polish bur reads like English boor. After Eva added her take on the word, it seemed that I was barking up a wrong tree (American idiom about hunting dogs cornering a raccoon on a wrong tree). The intended audience was the sophisticated Polish translator community on proz.:)

Te z pozoru różne zjawiska, w rzeczywistości ZSRR, lata 60 - 80, łączyły się; ludzie, zaraz po pracy walili prosto do oper, teatrów, gdzie w bufetach, w antraktach - zajadali się kawiorem, szynką, serem - popijając to morzem 'szampanskoje' i wódki; sklepy świeciły pustkami, a teatralny wyszynk plus kawior były dotowane z budżetu.

bardzo dziękuję wszystkim ale wszystkie wasze propozycje są w zbyt wysokim rejestrze; po polsku jest to kolokwialne wyrażenie, trochę ironiczne/sarkastyczne (bo to tak, jakby każdy miał w sobie "chama", którego chce się pozbyć). Na razie wymyśliłam "get social" lub "get civil", bo chociaż nie są może zbyt kolokwialne, to dobrze oddają potoczne znaczenie tego terminu.

Dziękuję! "Soak in" would work in a non-ironic way. I would read as 'napawać się/wchłaniać kulturę'
