English term

outfield position

Non-PRO English Other Other
"Supply of electricity to aircraft when stationed at the gate or at an airport outfield position"

Is the "oufield position" the specific area outside the airport terminal where aircrafts park?

Thank you in advance

Discussion

Daryo Aug 14, 2021:
here "outfield" is any part of the airport that in not the runway itself or a taxiway, in essence any part of the airport that is out of the way of moving airplanes, used for "parking" airplanes between two flights. [=> aircraft when stationed at the gate or at an airport outfield position"]

As much likely to be in the middle of the airport as anywhere else.

In actual fact, in the Heathrow Airport most of the "outfield" is bang in the middle between the North and South runways.

outlying location

In other words, on the periphery.

Inside the airport, because electricity is being supplied to aircraft.
Note from asker:
Thank you! But do you mean in the airport or outside the airport?

disagree Daryo : you really think that a meaning given as "#4 / other" in a general purpose dictionary is enough to understand how an airport is organised? Next time you're in an airport take a look at where airplanes are parked when just sitting empty between flights ...
