Jay: Hey, Beardy. Have you seen Manny Delgado?
Bearded Man: I think the make-out king is a little occupied. ( Clicks tongue )
Manny: Have you no respect for the ascot?!
What are you doing here?
Jay: I need you to come to our anniversary party.
Manny: I thought I was persona non grata. Now I'm halfway into flagrante delicto.
Jay: This, I don't miss. Your mother is upset you're not gonna be there.
Manny: Well, then maybe she shouldn't have banished me from the house.
Jay: I may have accidentally led you to believe that she was part of that decision, when actually...
Manny: I knew it! I knew my mom wouldn't be that mean to her little papi.
Denise: Manny?
Manny: ( Deep voice ) One minute, baby.
Jay: ( Chuckles ) That's been working?
Manny: ( Normal voice ) Shut up. So, I've been icing my mother for a week because of you? She must think I'm the worst son.

In this scene from Modern Family, Manny was making out with a girl when Jay knocked on the door. Then, Manny says, "Have you no respect for the ascot?!"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Christine Andersen

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Mohamed Fouda (asker) Mar 26, 2022:
It's sure important to know the meaning of "making out" here in this context. To translate it as kissing is totally different than having sex.
Tony M Mar 26, 2022:
@ Asker Oh yes, so then it is a sign to 'do not disturb'!
Yvonne Gallagher Mar 26, 2022:
@Mohamed well that little detail was certainly important.
Yvonne Gallagher Mar 26, 2022:
@Phil "making out" means far more than kissing where I'm from especially when followed by "halfway into flagrante delicto"
Mohamed Fouda (asker) Mar 25, 2022:
@philgoddard I'm sorry. I just noticed there was a necktie or cravat hanging on the door knob when Jay knocked. That's it then.
philgoddard Mar 25, 2022:
Yvonne Making out means kissing here, not having sex.

Nathan Lane will return to Modern Family this spring as the brunch-munching, ascot-donning power-gay Pepper Saltzman.

Yvonne Gallagher Mar 25, 2022:
ASCOT is also a famous horse race. Maybe he is using it as slang for
a "Ride" since that's what you say he is doing?
philgoddard Mar 25, 2022:
Next week on MODERN FAMILY Manny and Cam wear the same ascot to the christening of Jay's new yacht.

I'm not familiar with the series, but ascots are often worn by pretentious people.
philgoddard Mar 25, 2022:
Have you Googled this? It's a kind of cravat. Is somebody wearing one?
