one

Non-PRO English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
A low-cost airline doesn’t have to feel like one.
Because #TravelDeservesBetter

I cannot understand what the above “one” means.
Please give me some advice.
Thank you!
Change log

Mar 11, 2023 10:21: Yvonne Gallagher changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Tony M, Edith Kelly, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Anastasia Kalantzi Mar 11, 2023:
Totally agree with Tana Dalgiish. There's no need for any kind of points here; it's been a purely linguistic issue and it's been solved. Best regards.
Taña Dalglish Mar 11, 2023:
@ Mitsuko Thank you. Once you are satisfied with the explanation, you could probably close the question. I don't think that a question of this nature warrants grading, much less a glossary entry! Regards.
Paul Ryan Mar 11, 2023:
Pro-form One is an English pro-form, it stands for other nouns that cannot be referred to by a pronoun because they are not specified. Another example is 'do' in many (UK esp) sentences where it stands for other verbs
Anastasia Kalantzi Mar 11, 2023:
Absolutely agree with Tana Dalglish, just a perfect commentary-explanation: in order to avoid the known grammatical phenomenon of tautological expression, called as pleonasm.
José Patrício Mar 11, 2023:
Meaning:
A low-cost airline in #TravelDeservesBetter is something special beyond a low-cost airline
Mitsuko Yoshida (asker) Mar 11, 2023:
@Tana I understand well. Thank you!
Taña Dalglish Mar 11, 2023:
I am not sure how to explain it better, but "A low-cost airline does not have to feel like a low-cost airline". The one is perfectly good English, and avoids the redundancy of repeating "low-cost airline".
