French term

boudin

French to English Tech/Engineering Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
In a photobioreactor tank.

I'm afraid the term doesn't appear again so there is no further context. My best guess is some sort of tubular structure?

Bead

Alternatively, each flexible edge (on the lighting device) can consist of a bead made of the same material as the plate.

This allows the end of the lighting device to be bent to conform to the geometry of the photo-bioreactor. Alternatively, each flexible edge can consist of a bead made of the same material as the plate.

Still open to better suggestions if others have come across a more domain-specific equivalent!

neutral Isabelle Villancher : flexible bag might be closer? "The flexible bag-like reactor is formed of two rectangular plastic films attached together along their edges" (like sausages = boudin) https://www.oilgae.com/ref/downloads/materials_used_in_PBR_c...

tube / noodle

It is le même matériau que la plaque, but what is the plaque made of?

For the moment I can think of two possibilities: 1) some sort of plastic sheet, in which case the boudin could be an inflatable tube, like the boudin rimming the top of some above-ground swimming pools; 2) some sort of foam plastic, in which case it could be like the 'noodles' (frites) used as flotation devices in said pools.

Flexible tube

I think boudin =tube see the following images -
https://www.google.com/search?q=boudin flexible tube&sca_esv...
I think flexible makes sense in the context of the text: i.e. a flexible tube is an alternative to rigid tubes connected by connecting elements that enable their flexibility.
