Discussion

Arlene Lokomowitz Mar 26, 2014:
I agree with Daryo. I go with original, unedited music. http://www.disneymovierewards.go.com/rewards/scrubs-3-dvd-41...
"Bursting with highly contagious bonus features and featuring the show's original unedited music"
Daryo Mar 25, 2014:
the only parsing that holds water (musique originale libre) + (d'édition) leads to nonsense - what would be a "musique ... d'édition"?
the only variant that makes sense is:
(musique originale) + (libre d'édition)
i.e. they are publishing "musique originale" and "libre d'édition" is added to stress that it's really "musique originale" - that hasn't been changed in any way.
It's a well known practice that for the purpose of TV/movies very often everything gets "adapted" - historical events, literary classics (to the point to be only vaguely related to the "original work") including the music used.
Miranda Joubioux (X) Mar 25, 2014:
Any chance of asking your client?
philgoddard Mar 25, 2014:
As far as I can see, all the hits for "libre d'édition" refer either to open-source editing software, or to independent publishing, as in société libre d'édition.
I'd be surprised if there weren't some clues to the meaning elsewhere in the document. Or it could be a typo.
Tom: I don't know what you mean by "original music is generally DRM, so the contrary needs to be specified here".
philgoddard Mar 25, 2014:
Jim You didn't really explain the relevance of your reference, but I've just noticed that it contains a couple of mentions of "logiciel libre d'edition". If you look up these items of software, they're open-source music-editing programs. So, Daryo, I was wrong to say that "édition" doesn't mean "editing" - it clearly does sometimes, though I'm not sure if it does here.
Allegro - have you tried Googling the TV series (I assume that's what it is) and finding out more about the music? I can't believe anyone would write copyright-free music for a TV programme.
AllegroTrans (asker) Mar 25, 2014:
@ Miranda That's the basic problem - it doesn't, it says "libre d'édition"...
Miranda Joubioux (X) Mar 25, 2014:
Should be 'libre de droits d'édition'.
Daryo Mar 24, 2014:
copyright free? can't be:
copyright free = libres de droits d'auteur;
Emiliano Pantoja Mar 24, 2014:
I think it could mean copyright free music. A sort of pre-recorded sounds of several instruments: drums, guitar,.. that can be used to create music
philgoddard Mar 24, 2014:
I don't suppose it could mean copyright free?

unedited / editing-free / untouched original music

pretty self explanatory:
musique originale libre d'édition = musique originale qui n'a été ni éditée / ni adaptée / ni "modernisée", c-à-d dans la version originale, libre de toutes interférences éditoriales ultérieures.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : Despite your boundless confidence, I think this is unlikely. Edition doesn't usually mean editing.

"Edition doesn't usually mean editing."? It does here - What's the relevance of "usually"? We are dealing here and now with this particular ST. Any other variant that would hold water?

neutral Daryo : useful source of terms, but there's no "copyright-free" music in this ST (which would be "libre de droits d'auteur", no ifs nor buts)
