SJLD Apr 9, 2009:
gonadic If this is a report concerning a pituitary specimen (tumour?), there is no way anything "gonadic" can be seen.

reduction in the level of cellular activity

It looks as if the writer is reporting a drop in cellular activity, but I have no idea what is meant by 'GO' unless it refers to 'gonadique' ('gonadal'). Given the complex relationships between hormone-secreting cells in different parts of the body, this is a possibility.

agree SJLD : maybe G0 (zero) phase q.v.

Thank you, particularly for the suggestion re the possibility of 'G0' rather than 'GO'

Many thanks, Dr. Jones
agree Lionel_M (X) : I agree with Nick and would translate GO as gonadic (we are in pituitary and there no way to check for G zero phase)

Thank you.

G0 phase and cell proliferation in pituitary tumours

http://www.eje-online.org/cgi/content/full/156/2/143

Markers of proliferation  Nuclear proteins, such as Ki-67 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) are often used to assess proliferative activity of tumour cells (16). Ki-67 is recognised by the MIB-1 monoclonal antibody and it is expressed throughout the cell cycle in G1, S, G2 and M phases, but not the quiescent G0 phase (28, 35). The percentage of cells immunostained for this protein (Ki-67/MIB-1 labelling index) represents a reliable marker of proliferative activity (36).
