French term

test d’éviction-provocation

French to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals allergy testing - skin
done to prove whether person shows allergic response

it's the "éviction" I 'm not sure how to put - can it just be omitted in English?

Thank you all for your help:-)
Drmanu49 Feb 10, 2008:
Yes to your statement Rachel, "Challenge is the "provocation" and elimination the "eviction", acc. to what I find.".
Drmanu49 Feb 10, 2008:
but if if this is food allergy, I think the closest answer would be elimination diet and food challenge test.
Drmanu49 Feb 10, 2008:
IMI Rachel, I would not include it unless you know specifically what type of ban / rejection / elimination this is about.

elimination/rechallenge

Hi Rachel.
I agree entirely with Manu as to the meaning of the terms eviction and provocation in the context of allergy.

The choice of which English terms to use now becomes a question of style. Interestingly, we tend to use different phraseology according to the type of allergy. For food, we would say "elimination/reintroduction" or "elimination/rechallenge". If the allergy is a drug, I think "withdrawal/reintroduction" or "withdrawal/rechallenge" would be more appropriate. If the allergy is an environmental element, such as pollen, one might say "elimination/exposure" or "avoidance/exposure". The context should guide you to the correct selection.

You cannot simply eliminate "eviction" because it is an essential part of the test.
Note from asker:
Thank you Michael - yes, I realise I can't omit the eviction now, of course (and have found i further in the text, etc., too). Yes, it's food - cow's milk.

(food) challenge test (and ban/rejection or elimination diet )

In vivo methodologies include skin allergy testing (i.e., skin prick testing, skin scratch testing, intradermal testing, skin patch testing, and intradermal dilutional testing (also known as skin endpoint titration), bronchial provocation tests, and food challenges.

otherwise I think the closest answer would be elimination diet and food challenge test if this is food challenge.

challenge - dechallenge

I agreed with Drmanu for the "food" part. However, if the allergic reaction is due to the 'drug" applied/ingested, I would use: challenge and dechallenge.
At some point, a patient can be also 'rechallenged"
