1. What Daktarin oral gel is and what it is used for
Daktarin oral gel is a medicine which is used to treat fungal and bacterial infections of the mouth, throat, gullet, stomach or gut. The gel contains miconazole which works by destroying the fungus and associated bacteria which may be present.
This medicine is for use in adults and children aged 4 months and over.
2. Before you use Daktarin oral gel
Do not use Daktarin oral gel:
• If you are allergic to anything in Daktarin oral gel (listed in section 6 below)
• If you suffer from liver problems
• If it is for an infant under 4 months of age because of risk of choking
Do not use this medicine if the above applies to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Daktarin oral gel.
Take special care with Daktarin oral gel
Daktarin oral gel is sticky. This ensures that it stays in the mouth for as long as possible. If you are giving the gel to a child or infant, make sure that the gel does not close off the child's or infant's throat as they could choke on it. You should place the gel at the front of the mouth – never put it at the back of the throat.

If your infant is being treated with Daktarin oral gel, and you are breast-feeding, do not apply the gel to your nipple in order to give the gel to your infant.
Blood tests
If you are also taking medicines to thin the blood (anticoagulants) or phenytoin
(a medicine for epilepsy), your doctor may want to check the level of the medicines in your body by testing your blood.
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines that you buy without a prescription or herbal medicines.
In particular, do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
• Medicines for hay fever or allergy called terfenadine, astemizole or mizolastine
• Cisapride – for digestive problems
• Medicines to lower cholesterol called lovastatin or simvastatin
• Midazolam (by mouth) or triazolam - for anxiety or to help you sleep
• Pimozide or sertindole - for conditions affecting thoughts, feelings and behaviour
• Medicines for an irregular heart beat called quinidine or dofetilide
• Ergotamine-used to treat migraine
Do not start using Daktarin oral gel and tell your doctor if you are taking any of the above.
Tell your doctor before taking, or if you are already taking, any of the following medicines:
• Medicines to thin the blood (anticoagulants) such as warfarin.
• Medicines for HIV infection such as saquinivir. They are called ‘antiviral protease inhibitors’
• Medicines used in the treatment of cancer such as busulfan, docetaxel and a group of medicines known as ‘vinca alkaloids’
• Medicines that act on the heart and blood vessels called ‘calcium channel-blockers’ such as dihydropyridines and verapamil
• Medicines that are usually given after an organ transplant called cyclosporin, tacrolimus or rapamycin. Another name for rapamycin is sirolimus
• Medicines for epilepsy called phenytoin or carbamazepine
• Alfentanil - for pain
• Medicines used for anxiety or to help you sleep (tranquillisers), such as buspirone, alprazolam or brotizolam
• Midazolam - to help you relax or sleep when given into a vein
• Rifabutin - for tuberculosis
• Methylprednisolone - for inflammation (given by mouth or injection)
• Ebastine - for allergy
• Reboxetine - for depression
• Sulphonylureas such as chlorpropamide and glibenclamide (medicines for diabetes taken by mouth)
• Sildenafil – for erection problems

• Trimetrexate – for a type of pneumonia
Tell your doctor before taking, or if you are already taking any of the above.
They may need to alter your treatment.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Please tell your doctor before using Daktarin oral gel if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or might become pregnant.
You may still be able to use Daktarin oral gel if your doctor thinks you need to.
Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you are breast-feeding.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Driving and using machines
Daktarin oral gel is not likely to affect you being able to drive or use any tools or machines.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Daktarin oral gel
• Daktarin oral gel contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol), less than
100 mg per dose.

1. Qué es Daktarin gel oral y para qué se utiliza
Daktarin gel oral es un medicamento que se utiliza para prevenir y tratar las infecciones de hongos y bacterias de la boca, el esófago, la garganta, el estómago o el intestino. El gel contiene miconazol que actúa destruyendo los hongos o bacterias asociadas que puedan estar presentes.
Este medicamento esta indicado para adultos y para niños de 4 meses de edad o mayores.
2. Antes de ulitizar Daktarin gel oral
No utilice Daktarin gel oral:
• Si es alérgico a algún componente de Daktarin gel oral, (mencionado en la sección 6).
• Si padece de problemas hepáticos.
• Si se utiliza en niños menores de 4 meses de edad, podría haber riesgo de asfixia.
No utilice este medicamento en caso de que se le presente alguna de los puntos mencionadas con anterioridad. Ante cualquier duda consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de utilizar Daktarin gel oral.
Precauciones para el uso de Daktarin gel oral
Daktarin gel oral es un medicamento viscoso, lo que asegura que permanezca en la boca durante el mayor tiempo posible. Si un bebé o niño ingiere el producto asegúrese de que el gel no bloquee la garganta del bebé o niño, ya que podrían ahogarse. El gel tendrá que ser colocado en la parte frontal de la boca (nunca en la parte posterior).
Análisis de sangre
Si toma medicamentos para diluir la sangre (anticoagulantes) o fenitoína (medicamento para la epilepsia), su doctor puede querer examinar el nivel de los medicamentos en su cuerpo mediante un análisis de sangre.
Uso de otros medicamentos

• medicamentos utilizados para la fiebre del heno o alergias denominados terfenadina, astemizol o mizolastina;
• medicamentos utilizados para problemas digestivos como cisaprida;
• medicamentos utilizados para reducir el colesterol como lovastatina o simvastatina;
• medicamentos utilizados para la ansiedad o la inducción del sueño como midazolam (vía oral) o triazolam;
• medicamentos utilizados para estados que afectan las percepciones cognitivas, emocionales y del comportamiento como pimozida o sertindol;
• medicamentos utilizados para latidos cardíacos irregulares como quinidina o dofetilida;
• medicamentos utilizados para tratar migrañas como ergotamina.
No comience a tomar Daktarin Gel Oral e informe a su médico si está tomando alguno de los medicamentos mencionados anteriormente.
Informe a su médico antes de utilizar este medicamento o si ya está utilizando cualquiera de los medicamentos que se detallan a continuación:
• medicamentos utilizados para diluir la sangre (anticoagulantes) como warfarina;
• medicamentos utilizados para la infección de VIH como saquinivir. Estos son los denominados “inhibidores de proteasa antiviral”;
• medicamentos utilizados para tratamientos del cáncer como busulfan, docetaxel y un grupo de medicamentos conocidos como “alcaloides de vinca”;
• medicamentos que actúan en el corazón y los vasos sanguíneos como "bloqueadores de los canales del calcio" como dihidropiridinas y verapamilo;
• medicamentos que por lo general son recetados luego de un transplante de órgano como ciclosporina, tacrolimus o rapamicina. La rapamicina se la conoce también bajo el nombre de sirolimus;
• medicamentos utilizados para la epilepsia como fenitoína o carbamazepina;
• medicamentos utilizados para el dolor como alfentanilo;
• medicamentos utilizados para la ansiedad o para la inducción del sueño (tranquilizantes) como buspirona, alprazolam o brotizolam;
• medicamentos utilizados por vía endovenosa para relajarse o dormir como midazolam;
• medicamentos utilizados para la tuberculosis como rifabutina;
• medicamentos utilizados para la inflamación (por vía oral o inyección) como metilprednisolona;
• medicamentos utilizados para la alergia como ebastina;
• medicamentos utilizados para la depresión como reboxetina;
• medicamentos utilizados para la diabetes (vía oral) sulfonilureas como clorpropamida y glibenclamida;
• medicamento utilizados para problemas de erección como sildenafil;
• medicamentos utilizados para un tipo de neumonía como trimetrexato;
Informe a su médico antes de tomar este medicamento o si está tomando alguno de los medicamentos mencionados anteriormente.
Embarazo y lactancia
Antes de utilizar Daktarin Gel Oral informe a su médico si está embarazada, si piensa que lo está o si podría quedar embarazada.
Aún podría utilizar Daktarin Gel Oral si su médico considera que lo necesita.
Informe a su médico antes de utilizar este medicamento si se encuentra en período de lactancia.
Si esta embarazada o en período de lactancia, consulte a su médico o farmacéutico antes de tomar cualquier medicamento.
Manejo y uso de maquinaria
No es probable que Daktarin Gel Oral afecte su habilidad para manejar, utilizar herramientas o máquinas.
