Bio

(Quickie: Multilingual translator with over a decade of full-time experience working in mechanical engineering, marketing, IT as well as a wide range of other fields. Background in literature and writing provides thorough and well-written translations; by birth something of a planner also well able to meet deadlines, and patient enough to not overwork but structure assignments to provide quality without compromising time.)

The Long and Leisurely Read

It was early 2007 and I was working for a major IT company in Cork, Ireland when first asked to fill in with translating legal documents while being employed in another department. Taking up a liking for this new task I began with doing translations on the side, and since I left my later employment in the aeronautic industry 2012 to move to southern Europe it has become what I consider a rewarding full-time occupation.

Coming from a family of a few mother tongues and many learnt languages I have always seen linguistics more as something natural than a science. This combined with a life to a large extent spent in different parts of the world, university studies in English, French and linguistics, as well as a passion for writing, it follows that translations are something I enjoy working with and am able to do both well and with ease. Apart from having a wide knowledge of mechanical engineering (with aeronautics as specialisation) I am also through previous jobs and personal interest well versed in IT, pharmaceutical and medical equipment, marketing, construction projects, sports, and literature among many other fields.

In view of my experience with writing it is not surprising that I am able to recreate the flow of a text according to the original while keeping a high level of quality in what I produce without compromising time. As a combined blessing and curse I am a highly organised person and tend to plan things thoroughly even if not actively thinking of doing so, which works very well when working with various projects and assignments but does, entirely unrelated to the purpose of this text, occasionally create strain on a personal level. That being said, translations are, for me, not only a brilliant way to make a living, but also an occasional treasure trove where passions and details entirely unknown prior to picking up a job can become a burning interest, if only for a few days.

Before December 2012 I received my translation assignments through various contacts, in the past decade I have moved to where I work almost exclusively through agencies that first have contacted me here at ProZ.com.

Worth noting is that although my rates do not include third party proofreading I always ensure that what I deliver is up to the very same standard of quality as this would provide, and if anything I will look through something one time more than needed rather than once less.

I believe that will be it for now. Questions, project proposals and other communication are welcome through email, and although I tend to keep busy I normally respond within the hour.
