Source text - German Ingenieure gesucht!
Translation - English Engineers needed! Shortage of skilled development workers
Anyone who walks past the notice boards in town X will find the large amount of internal job offers striking. Primarily needed are development engineers.
Many of the staff are waiting impatiently for support by new colleagues, yet the search turns out to be harder than one might expect given the 4.5 million unemployed in Germany. The reason: nationwide there is a serious shortage of skilled and young workers for engineering and computing jobs.
There are many causes for this. One of them is the fact that the number of enrolled engineering students, who ABC is mainly interested in, dropped to one third from 1993 to 1998. At the same time the demand for specialists in all technical disciplines increased.
The HR department is trying frenetically to recruit new colleagues. One of the key aspects is to promote young workers. The aim is to get young people excited about ABC while they are still at university. At university fairs from Munich to Hamburg the staff from the HR department address the students. Assisted by young engineers, they explain products and marketplaces, arrange internships and describe concrete entry and development possibilities at ABC.
