English to Italian: Picture Frames (Goffman) General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Source text - English Given that pictures may be organized as portraits or as
scenes(and if the latter, caught, faked, or realistic to a
degree), and given the distinction between illustration and
instantiation, and the contrast of both of these to evocative
symbolizations providing at best a purely conventional
relation between vehicle and sign, and given further that one
can be concerned about the nature of pictures as well as the
nature of the world, it is possible to begin to see how
heterogeneous a photograph may be as an object of academic
interest.
One finds in pictures not only rules of scene production
that are exclusive to pictures, but also photographic conventions
peculiar to particular subiect matters. For example,
portrait photographers routinely touch up negatives or prints
to improve the complexion of the subjects appearing in
them, creating a people that has smoother skin than that
found among mortals. In ads brunette women tend to be
styled somewhat differently from blond women; this
presumably characteristic of pictures, not life.
Translation - English Discovery of the villa and the funerary monument of Lucrezi Valenti
We could not imagine when the first walls were discovered during an excavation, that we were to face the villa, and then the tomb, of Lucretii Valentes, Pompeii’s most powerful family in Nerone’s era.
Much to our surprise, in removing the lapilli on the wall of a room, a fresco came out. It consisted of a central panel surrounded by a so-called “aboard mat” decoration, with a central medallion bearing a rampant red panther. Above the medallion, it featured a drinking horn (for libations), two pomegranates and a bird resting his paws on two green twigs and pecking one of four berries. The panther and the drinking horn clearly related to Dionysus, the god of wine. This drink, the most famous Pompeianum, was the great wealth of that land and the main source of its economy.
At the time, we had no idea who owned the villa, but a new discovery, just a few dozen meters further, fortunately allowed us to define it.
Italian to English: La tubercolosi resistente ai farmaci General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical: Health Care

La tubercolosi resistente ai farmaci
1. [Video] Ciao a tutti!

Drug-resistant Tuberculosis
1. [Video] Hi everyone! We have already talked about symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB). Today we will discuss drug-resistant TB, which represents an important public health issue.
The aim of this lecture is to provide basic concepts about the causes, diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant TB, in order to learn how to recognize and manage a drug-resistant TB patient.
2. Let’s start from the basics: drug-susceptible TB responds to a usual 6-month (or more) therapy with first-line drugs (which traditionally are isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, ethambutol and streptomycin). Drug-resistant TB is not susceptible to one or more anti-TB drugs: therefore, it requires a more complex and longer treatment.
Drug-resistant TB can be classified as follows:
- Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR TB), if the Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (MT) is resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampicin, which are the core of the anti-TB treatment.
- Extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR TB), if the MT is resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin, plus any fluoroquinolone and at least one of three injectable second-line drugs (i.e., amikacin, kanamycin, or capreomycin) [1].
