PROJECT: COMMERCIALIZATION OF CASHEW CULTIVATION
IN KHONG DISTRICT, CHAMPASAK PROVINCE
CHAPTER I. SUMMARY OF PROJECT DESCRIPTION
I.1. Project Location
The project area is located in Khong district, Champasak province, Lao PDR.
I.2. Project Objective
The project aims to improve livelihoods and reduce poverty for 1,286 households with 7,136 people in eight villages: Bung, Hadxaikhone, Naseuak, Nasenphanh, Nasomhong, Samkhang, Songnhang, and Songpeuay villages in Khong District, Champasak province by enhancing cashew productivity and commercialization of cashew products.
I.3. Project Components
There are ¬ three components in the project, including Component 1: Demonstration of Cashew Cultivation, Component 2: Value Chain Development and Component 3: Management of Processing Facilities.
I.4. Project Stakeholders
G-Farm in Korea will invest the project financing and Khong District Agriculture and Forestry Office (DAFO) and Champasak Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Office (PAFO) and the Sustainable Natural Resources Management and Productivity Enhancement Project (SNRMPE) will assist the commercialization of the cashew cultivation in the project area. The investor, G-Farm has the responsibility for implementation of the project. However, Khong DAFO is the direct agency supporting the project under the overall management of the PAFO. The coordinator of DAFO will be responsible for supporting all project activities. The DAFO will also liaise with departments of the provincial government and other district and commune authorities and user groups responsible for implementation.
I.5. Total cost of the Project
Total cost of the project is estimated at US$ 15.96 million that will be financed by G- Farm, Korea.
I.6. Project implementation period
The project will be implemented in five years, starting on 1 January 2016 and completed by 31 December 2020 and thenceforth the operation of the processing facilities will be managed by G-Farm.
I.7. Investor
G-Farm, Korea in Appendix 1 is responsible for operation and maintenance of the completed facilities. Four cashew farm cooperatives in the project area will be responsible for implementing the contract faming based on the contracts that will be signed by G-Farm, Korea and the cooperatives in order to take part in implementing the cashew cultivation. The cooperatives will also adopt the new technologies learned from the demonstration plot of the project during the implementation. Cashew farmers will cultivate the cashew with improved technologies for the commercialization production for the local and regional markets. Communities will also take part in the value addition and marketing of the products.
According to the Sustainable Natural Resources Management and Productivity Enhancement Project (SNRMPEP) that has been co-financed by the Government of Lao PDR, Government of Vietnam, the Asian Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) since 2009, the investment was initiated to introduce the Public, Private and Cooperative Partnership (PPCP) approach of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest (MAF), Lao PDR. The PPCP approach was accepted by G-Farm, Korea and the local government of Champasak province by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) attached as Appendix 2. G-Farm, Korea has visited the project sites in August, October and November 2016 for preparing its feasibility study, including the proposed cashew plantation area of 250 ha and the processing factory site of 15 ha as attached in Appendixes 3 and 4 The G-farm feasibility study team plans to submit its feasibility study report to the Champasak province for their review and approval in January 2016.

CAST AND SPLINT CARE:
• Keep the cast or splint clean and dry at all times. Cover the cast or splint with a plastic bag or cast covers when taking a bath or shower.
• Do not stick objects inside the cast or splint for any reason. If the skin itches, blow cool air under the cast using the cool setting of a hairdryer. You may also scratch the skin outside the cast with a cloth.
• Do not put baby powder, talc or any other substance into the cast or splint.
ELEVATION:
• Move the fingers frequently to prevent stiffness.
• Elevate the casted extremity with pillows or blankets above the level of the heart to lessen pain and swelling. Use an arm sling for support.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY:
• When severe painful swelling is not controlled with elevation and pain medicine.
• When fingers turn blue or white and changing the position of the casted extremity does not help.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR DURING OFFICE HOURS (Monday-Friday/ 8AM-4PM)WHEN:
• You notice any cracks, dents, soft spots, holes or flaking.
• The cast or splint edges cause skin problems.
• The cast or splint becomes wet or badly soiled.
• The cast or splint becomes loose or partly slips off.
• Numbness or persistent tingling is present.
• You notice an unusual odor from inside the cast or splint.
