Source text - English The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, which translates in German to ‘the Berlin Radio Show’, has been providing a platform for ground-breaking innovation and invention since 1924, making it one of the oldest industrial exhibitions in the whole of Germany. The first ever event managed to attract an impressive 242 exhibitors and was a huge hit with the public, and it didn’t take long for IFA to be taken seriously by exhibitors and the public alike. This was reflected in 1930, when none other than Albert Einstein delivered the opening address at the show.
Although the very first IFA was 80 years ago now, this year will see them hosting their 54th event. You might think we’ve just got our maths horribly wrong, but there’s a rather simple reason for this: from 1950 until 2005, IFA was organised on a two yearly basis, and was then reverted back to an annual event from 2005 onwards.
At the 1931 show, the German physicist and inventor Manfred von Ardenne gave a demonstration of a television that transmitted and received images using a cathode ray tube. Not only did this leave the IFA audience that year in awe, but cathode ray tubes then went on to be the standard component for millions and millions of TVs globally, right up until the early 00s when thinner LED and plasma displays began to take over in popularity.
Four years later, the German technology company AEG presented the world’s first ever practical reel-to-reel tape recorder, the Magnetophon K1, which set the path for a dramatic change in how we listened to music in our daily lives, and in 1959 the world’s first ever wireless remote control was unveiled to the public’s amazement.
Translation - Latvian Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, kas tulkojumā no vācu valodas nozīmē "Berlīnes radio izstāde"’, nodrošina platformu satriecošām inovācijām un izgudrojumiem kopš 1924. gada, kas padara to par vienu no vecākajām rūpnieciskajām izstādēm visā Vācijā.
