English to Chinese: Improving ROI of TV Advertising Spend General field: Marketing Detailed field: Advertising / Public Relations
Source text - English Case Study: A specialty retailer used ABC’s Test & Learn software to improve its TV advertising strategy
The Company
A leading online apparel retailer
The Challenge
• The client was considering a TV ad campaign designed to attract less frequent customers and drive sales particularly to more premium products
• The ad agency provided some results based on direct response metrics (i.e. website visits) during the ad time slots, but this did not give a full view of the campaign impact
• Management wanted to understand the full incremental profit impact of their strategy and whether it was driving the desired directional changes in AUR and margin rate
The ABC Solution
• The online retailer used ABC’s Test & Learn software to isolate the incremental impact of increasing TV ad spend
• Using ABC, the retailer learned that the campaign generated a significant gross margin lift through increased sales volume, AUR and margin rate
• The client also learned that certain channels and customer types were affected more than others
• Automatically segmenting the results, the software showed that the increased spend was more effective in markets with specific demographic profiles
• The proposed targeted rollout plan is expected to generate $32M in margin (ROI of +50% vs. +5% for an un-targeted campaign)

English to Chinese: Fibre-Optic Cable on the Advance General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Telecom(munications)
Source text - English The development and upgrading of cable networks is far from complete however – though they might look to a very promising future. Companies and private households were already able to “travel” on data motorways noticeably faster over the past few years than only ten years ago. But even higher speeds are possible – this is to be ensured by higher-performance fibre-optic cables for telephone, Internet and TV over the coming few years. They are capable of replacing coaxial cables entirely or for the most part. Since numerous European countries still have a high demand for new fibre-optic cable networks cable and wire producers as well as suppliers of cable manufacturing lines with their products and services will be in demand over the next few years. They have to be prepared for changes that will occur medium to long-term and bring opportunities with them.
Originally, cable networks consisted of coaxial cables. Coaxial cables – most of which consist of an inner conductor made of thin, braided or twisted copper wires as well as cable shields also made from braided copper wires – will become a thing of the past for cable networks. “For upgrading the networks coaxial cables are increasingly replaced by more powerful fibre-optic cables so as to transport bigger data volumes,” explains Mr. Doyle. The simultaneous transmission of sound and TV broadcasts, telephone calls and data via Internet is improved and facilitated even further by fibre-optic cables.
English to Chinese: Investments to Drive AI Adoption General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Automation & Robotics
Source text - English Australia is currently on a path of strong digital transformation. The government recently announced a more than US$270 million investment to modernize, transform and enhance the productivity of the Australian Public Service (APS) from 2017-2018. This will allow increased and closer collaboration with the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) to develop platforms for various agencies to collect and access government data. An additional US$100 million will focus on the agencies’ transition to modern and sustainable operating models, such as upgraded information and communications technology systems.
In addition, the Australia 2030: Prosperity through Innovation roadmap prioritises machine learning and AI as significant strategic opportunities for the economy. More investments focused on AI and other emerging technologies are needed for better innovation that maximizes the potential of digital technology to drive productivity and effectiveness.
Based on findings from ABC’s latest survey, Data Pulse: Maximising the Potential of Artificial Intelligence, many organizations in Australia are aware of the impact and value AI will bring but seem to remain cautious about its development. Here is what we found about organizations’ attitude towards AI in Australia from the survey:
1. Many agree AI is important for their future development, with plans to adopt more in the near future.
About 88% of organizations in Australia believe that they need to implement AI to stay relevant in the near future, with 86% of them planning to adopt more AI solutions in the next 12 months.
2. More than half of the organizations in Australia still face hurdles when it comes to understanding and applying AI within their business.
More than half of respondents (63%) are unsure of where to start with AI. They are aware more needs to be done to maximize the potential AI brings, with 92% agreeing that more investments should be made to understand the value of AI.
3. Scepticism still exists in regard to the impact of AI.
Organizations in Australia remain unsure of the benefits of AI with 13% of the respondents disagreeing that AI will have an impact on daily life. In terms of driving productivity, 11% of the respondents from Australian organisations don’t believe that AI will deliver the necessary results.

English to Chinese: Meteorological and Hydrological Data Analyses General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Environment & Ecology
Source text - English 3.2 Field Reconnaissance
After the collation and analysis of the data collected, it is necessary to carry out field reconnaissance to understand the current condition of the planned area, check the correctness and completeness of the data and put forth a suggestion for the items and contents to be included in a supplementary reconnaissance such as the topography and profile survey, field interview for flood damage and so on.
3.3 Hydrological Analyses
3.3.1 Introduction
• The regulated waterways usually don’t have any streamflow gaging station that can provide streamflow observation data for analysis. The hydrological analysis is normally done by estimating the peak flow discharge of flood control points at each recurrence of the discharge points based on the rainfall data from the rainfall stations in and near the planned area.
• The peak flow discharge at each flood control point is affected not only by rainfall (strength and duration), size of the catchment area and topography, but also by the rainwater harvesting system in the catchment area.
• In addition to estimating the peak flow discharge of each control point at each recurrence period, hydrological analysis needs to accommodate the flooding model to simulate the flooding condition in the planned area for the reference of solution analysis and assessment.
3.3.2 Selection of Rainfall Gaging Stations and Data Collection
• In principle the selection of rainfall stations should be limited to those rainfall stations in the planned basin area when possible. The selected rainfall stations are to collaborate with other suitable rainfall stations in the vicinity and should have reliable observation data and long established records with data integrity.
• To ensure the reliability of the statistical analysis results, the records from rainfall stations should cover a period of more than 25 years.
• The rainfall stations selected should be those self-contained stations that are equipped with reliable observation data, longer recording periods and data integrity to form the basis of designing rainfall patterns in the basin and estimating rainfall intensity formulas.
• The location, distribution and density of the rainfall stations are determined based on the needs for their service. Investigation and review should be conducted when it is deemed necessary for hydrological data analysis and application.
• Rainfall stations with short records due to insufficient years of recording or missing records should have their hydrologic data adjusted, supplemented or extended.
• Rainfall station data is the most important hydrological and meteorological data of river management and planning. It often forms the basis for river hydrological and hydrological analysis. Collection of the data recorded over the years should include such data as the heaviest 1-day, 2-day and 3-day consecutive rainfall and hourly rainfall intensity etc.
Translation - Chinese 3.2.
(Selection of Rainfall Gaging Stations and Data Collection)

1. The main mechanic behind missions is to complete all objectives (currently 3 per mission on 3 different games) in the least possible spins.
2. Mission name/description/coverage/group: Very similar to the tournament mechanics above. It enables to launch a mission within the whole group or a specific brand.
3. Mission dropdown menu: You have a list of predefined missions in groups of 3 objectives each. Every mission has its own 3 objectives under 3 different games.
4. Raffle: At the end of each mission period you can launch an optional raffle and include/exclude a number of players combinable with their leaderboard position criteria. (more details below)
5. Notification date/end: This is the time that the promotion will appear on the left-hand navigation. A greyed-out ribbon on the left hand menu implies that the promo is under notification stage (visible) but not active. Green means active so all your users’ activity will be considered. The notification has to live a minimum of 1 min prior to the promo starting and go down a minimum of 1 min after.
6. Mission start/end date: The time the mission starts and ends. It has to be within the notification period span.
7. Raffle start/end: If the raffle tickbox is selected the notification/mission end is substituted by Raffle start and Raffle end. In this case the Mission end=Raffle start and the overall Mission end and Raffle end=Notification end. The raffle always takes place at the end of each mission’s leaderboard. To put it into perspective you can check the following graph.

English to Chinese: Haptic Media Studies General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Media / Multimedia
Source text - English What, then, makes this moment decidedly different from those before it? In light of the previous developments, we are suggesting that the transformation of touch by media and communication systems has already happened, but that it unfolded so gradually that it largely escaped the notice of media scholars. The haptic moment in which we find ourselves now is a sort of aftershock of technological change, as we assess and come to terms with the ramifications of touch’s transformation. The technologies that mediate touch have undergone a quiet domestication, as touchscreen phones, tablets, and video- game controllers work their way into daily life, while more advanced instantiations of haptics have become niche components for medical simulations, design studios, and robotic telesurgery. Touch’s transformation into a sense capable of being stored, trans- mitted, and reconstructed by digital interfaces is not, of course, complete—and the stream of new haptics technologies, infused with a flavor of Silicon Valley hype left over from the Mondo 2000 era, promises to finish the project. The “taptic engine,” the “tactile internet” (Hauwei, 2015; a bizarre promise for the proliferation of telepresence through upcoming 5G mobile data networks), and haptic gloves, touch wands, and suits that simulate haptic reality via vibro-tactile and electro-tactile stimulation systems, all offer to fulfill our fantasies of full bodily immersion in simulated realities. Haptic effects design—the engineering of “good enough” or “lifelike” sensory experience for users— has become a routinized and formalized subdiscipline of computer programming, with an affiliated set of best practices for creating tactile illusions. Touch is now, quite conventionally, operationalized through Application Programming Interfaces, just another part of the software and hardware engineers’ toolkit. We offer no predictions about the success or failure of any individual device or application. Instead, we suggest the disruptive power of these technologies, in the aggregate, lies in their ability to bring about a change in our orientation to tactility—to prompt an acknowledgment that the collective sensorium has been cumulatively altered through the technologies of touch.

English to Chinese: Public Displays of Understanding General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Education / Pedagogy
Source text - English Public Displays of Understanding
When students explore topics that are genuinely meaningful to them, amazing things inevitably happen.
When preparing a showcase of learning, we suggest keeping three things in mind: process, authenticity, and learner involvement.
Process: As we touched on earlier, the Inquiry Process is a crucial step in Free Inquiry. We love to remind our learners that the process is just as important as the final product, if not more so. However, we have found supporting our students in honouring and celebrating the process can make for an impressive showcase of learning event.
We agree that the final product or showcase is special, but it must include some reflection on or capturing of their process. This invites critical reflection on what learning brought them into their final step.
Authenticity: We love to encourage our learners to keep authenticity at the core of their work. Their Free Inquiry has no doubt been a meaningful learning experience for them, and we propose that their showcase be as well. Being honest about how an inquiry process went and sharing learning and growth in an authentic and integral way trumps having the “right” answer. We avoid looking for the “right” answer; we hope learners dive into inquiry, reflect, revise, and authentically share their experiences, what they learned, and where they will go next.
Learner Involvement: Learner involvement is key when creating a showcase of learning. Students are presenting their questions, their research, their learning, and their public display of understanding so this must be their showcase of learning. For some teachers, letting go of a final product can be challenging; this is where learning tends to get messy, and, from the outside looking in, perhaps even chaotic. But we love this stage and encourage you to let your learners be in the driver’s seat and have agency over the showcase of learning. It will be much more meaningful and authentic if you do.
As you take steps to make inquiry a powerful addition to your classroom, consider a few vehicles—showcase events, digital portfolios, and blogging—we’ve used to support our students in sharing their learning with an authentic audience.
English to Chinese: Remediation General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Media / Multimedia
Source text - English In the end, no matter how interesting, enjoyable, comfortable, or well accepted they are, these approaches [repurposing] borrow from existing paradigms. They were^t conceived with digital media in mind, and as a result they don^ exploit the special qualities that are unique to digital worlds. Yet ifs those unique qualities that will ultimately define entirely new languages of expression. And ifs those languages that will tap the potential of digital media as new [original italics] vehicles of expression. Repurposing is a transitional step that allows us to get a secure footing on unfamiliar terrain. But it isn’t where we’ll find the entirely new dimensions of digital worlds. We need to transcend the old to discover completely new worlds of expression. Like a road sign, repurposing is a marker indicating that profound change is around the bend.
From the perspective of remediation, Holtzman misses the point. He himself appeals to a comfortable, modernist rhetoric, in which digital media cannot be significant until they make a radical break with the past. However, like their precursors, digital media can never reach this state of transcendence, but will instead function in a constant dialectic with earlier media, precisely as each earlier medium functioned when it was introduced. Once again, what is new about digital media lies in their particular strategies for remediating television, film, photography, and painting. Repurposing as remediation is both what is “unique to digital worlds” and what denies the possibility of that uniqueness.
English to Chinese: Sequential Goal-Directed Movements General field: Science Detailed field: Education / Pedagogy
Source text - English Movement times are significantly shorter when moving from a start position to a single target, compared to when one has to continue onto a second target (i.e., the one-target advantage [OTA]). To explain this movement time difference, both the movement integration and the movement constraint hypotheses have been proposed. Although both hypotheses have been found to have explanatory power as to why the OTA exists, the support for each has been somewhat equivocal. The current review evaluated the relative support in the literature for these two hypotheses. Ultimately, preferential support for each theoretical explanation was found to be related to the higher indices of difficulty (IDs: Fitts, 1954) employed. That is, studies that included higher IDs (i.e., 6–8 bits) were more likely to provide more support for the movement constraint hypothesis, whereas studies employing lower IDs (i.e., 1–4 bits) were more likely to provide more support for the movement integration hypothesis. When the IDs employed were relatively intermediate (i.e., 5 bits), both hypotheses were mostly supported. Thus, task difficulty is crucial when determining which hypothesis better explains the planning and control of sequential goal-directed movements. Critically, the OTA most likely always involves integration but may also involve constraining if the accuracy demands are sufficiently high.

Recycled nylon eco-friendly fabric made in Japan is used to reduce waste generation and save energy through the green circular process of recycling → melting → drawing and regeneration → cotton blending → garment → consumer → recovery,
thereby not only expressing respect for the environment
but also protecting the ecology.
The use of blended cotton is to allow you to directly see and feel a “sandy” touch provided by the real nylon strips.
As the blending is only on one side of the fabric,
not only does the part that comes into contact with the body not prickle the skin, but it also retains the soft, skin-friendly feel of the cotton cloth, without compromising the warmth.
Because the fabric structure is easy to snag, be sure to use a laundry bag when using a washing machine to wash the clothes. Triangular Full Print Collarless Shirt

The introverted gloss of Japanese velour shows the elegance of light and shadow.

perfectly interpreting the artistic conception of both sides of yin and yang. Precautions for Washing:

Translation - English The design of this research and development sequence is based primarily on the fact that the aquaculture environment is filled with nitrogen-containing metabolic waste such as biological waste, residual baits and other organic waste. In these organisms, some are directly metabolized from aquatic organisms, and some are hydrolyzed and decomposed by bacteria or fungi to oxidize in water to form ammonia/ammonium-nitrogen (NH3/NH4+-N, or Total Ammonia Nitrogen, TAN ).
Ammonia nitrogen exists in the form of ammonia or ammonium ions in water and effluents. At different pHs, there is a slightly different toxicity to the organism with the ionization ratio. Substances called "ammonia" or "ammonium" in most aquarium terms actually refer to ammonia nitrogen compounds.
Ammonia-nitrogen is acutely toxic to aquatic organisms, which can damage the fish's nervous system and cause the fish to breathe with difficulty or have low immunization. A large amount of ammonia nitrogen can even cause the eutrophication of water quality, making it impossible to farm fish.
Therefore, it is necessary to culture bacteria that can decompose ammonia nitrogen before culturing water to reduce the adverse effects caused by fish excretion and overfeeding.
In general, the process from the formation of ammonia nitrogen to its decomposition to a less toxic nitrous acid and nitric acid by order is called the nitrogen cycle. In most aquarium terms it is called the nitrification system or the nitrification cycle. The process of decomposition can be divided into two stages of nitrification and denitrification, as shown in Figure A below.

Translation - English The existing high frequency connector can be disposed inside the housing (female end), and the optical module can be inserted inside the housing (male end) so that an electrical connection between the optical module and the high frequency connector is achieved when plugged into one another. The existing method for a high-frequency connecting device is to provide upper heat sinks on the top of the housing. When the optical module is inserted into the interior of the housing, the upper heat sinks may be used to contact the optical module to assist the heat dissipation of the optical module. However, since only the upper heat sinks are used to assist in heat dissipation, its heat dissipation performance is rather poor. Moreover, as the existing pluggable mechanism of the optical module is located inside the housing, the optical module cannot make effective contact with the heat sinks, resulting in poor heat dissipation performance. In addition, as the existing thermal conduction methods involve many media and thermal resistance, the high temperature of the optical module cannot be efficiently conducted to the upper heat sinks due to excessive heat loss.
The technical problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a high-frequency connecting device with enhanced cooling efficiency of optical module. By reducing the occurrence of thermal resistance and accelerating the heat dissipation capability, the high temperature of an optical module is efficiently transmitted to each heat sink.

Translation - English Summary of Research Status
“Tess of the d'Urbervilles” is the most famous masterpiece of Thomas Hardy in the 19th century and is regarded as one of the most celebrated pieces of Hardy's prose writing. Since its publication, many scholars at home and abroad have studied Tess, the protagonist, from different perspectives such as heroism, ecofeminism, pessimism and spirit of revolt. The state of research in our country since the 1990s is that many scholars have studied “Tess of the d'Urbervilles” from many different perspectives. Nie Zhenzhao (1992) proposed that the direct deciding factors contributing to the tragic fate of Tess are her poverty, Social hypocrisy of moral ethics and unjust legal system. Ma Xiaoxiang (1993) pointed out that, other than a variety of social factors, she caused her own pain and misfortune. Yang Yonghe and Zhang Xiaoyan (2002) explored Tess's fate from the perspective of heroism. Through an empirical analysis of the heroism of Tess at different stages, they concluded that it is Tess’s heroism that leads to her tragedy. Liu Kaifu (2007) interpreted Tess’s fate from the perspective of pessimism, and proceed to expound the influence of British social, economic, legal, religions and hypocritical moral ethics on people's life in the 19th century. Based on the theory of Marxist feminism, Du Shu (2009) argueed that Tess's tragedy is inevitable in a capitalist and patriarchal society. By the 2010’s, there was an endless stream of research on “Tess of the d'Urbervilles”. By combining with the principle of eco-feminism, Yang Yang (2010) promulgated that the tragic roots of Tess in “Tess of the d'Urbervilles” by Hardy lie in two aspects: the relationship between men and women as well as the relationship between mankind and nature. Women who are closely associated with nature are gradually being pulled away from it, as a result of both the industrial revolution and modern way of life. By analyzing Tess's spirit of revolt, Qian Yanqiu (2011) concluded that Tess's rebellion represents a complete transformation on her part, including from passive to active, unconscious to rational and innocent to mature, thus leading to create a vibrant and charismatic personality of the heroine.
