English to Portuguese: Fertile Crescent General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: History
Source text - English The Neo-Assyrian Empire was ruled by some of the best-known kings from antiquity including Tiglath Pileser III (745-727 BCE),Sargon II (722-705 BCE), Sennacherib (705-681 BCE), Esarhaddon (681-669 BCE) and Ashurbanipal (668-627 BCE). Ashurbanipal prized knowledge highly and ordered all the literary works of the region copied and stored in his great library.
When the Neo-Assyrian Empire fell in 612 BCE, the invading forces set fire to the libraries of the cities but, since the works were written on clay tablets, they were only baked harder, not destroyed. The invaders, inadvertently, were responsible for the preservation of the very culture they sought to destroy.
Translation - Portuguese O Império Neoassírio foi governado por alguns dos reis mais conhecidos da antiguidade, incluindo Tiglate Pileser III (745-727 AEC), Sargão II (722-705 AEC), Senaqueribe (705-681 AEC), Assaradão (681-669 AEC), e Assurbanípal (668-627 AEC).
English to Portuguese: Similarities Between Eastern & Western Philosophy General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Philosophy
Source text - English The similarities between eastern and western philosophy are greater than any differences cited by modern-day writers and lecturers on the topic. The most often cited difference is that western philosophy is 'fragmentary' while eastern philosophy is 'holistic'.
The popular writer Sankara Saranam, author of the book "God Without Religion", is one example of this when he claims that eastern philosophy is concerned with general knowledge while western philosophy aims at specific knowledge. This refers to the popular understanding that eastern philosophy - specifically Chinese philosophy - addresses the whole of human existence while western philosophy - beginning with the Greeks - only focuses on certain aspects of the human condition.

Experience
Years of experience: 5. Registered at ProZ.com: Sep 2020.
I am an English-to-Portuguese professional translator, with solid experience in offering language services, formal education in Translation Studies, and able to work with various content. As a native Brazilian, I have always been motivated to make foreign content available to people within my country – and that is what I love about being a translator.
I have a degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) – the leading university in my country –, and I have previously worked at a Real Estate development company, and, most recently, at a Banking institution, becoming familiar with the ins and outs of these industries, and well-acquainted with Accounting, Finance, and Marketing terminologies. I also have a study background in applied linguistics and Portuguese grammar, which helps me produce target texts that feel natural and engaging to the reader, with fewer risks of grammatical and syntax errors.
About my Work
My career started in-house, handling the translations of news articles, database entries, scientific publications, official letters and emails, and even on-site transcription and copywriting at international conferences. After starting independently, I have translated manuals, scientific publications, video subtitles, book chapters, product descriptions, and other media for both translation agencies and end clients. I have also performed reviews and analyzed other translators’ quotes for projects.
Translation Services
All my work is performed in conformity with the standards from ISO 17100 (Requirements for translation services), which means keeping the purpose and specifications of a translation project always in mind and complying with the adequate style for the intended target audience while maintaining semantic accuracy and appropriate usage of the target language.
Marketing, Business, and Finance
My experience translating marketing content includes product descriptions and blog posts that are SEO-friendly and enticing for readers to engage with. I have also worked with businesses that needed strategy reports translated to their Brazilian teams, and with brochures and media regarding corporate social responsibility and awareness of contemporary cultural issues for inside usage. My economics and accounting background also enables me to assist in translating financial statements and analytical documents.
Education
I have extensive experience translating educational materials for secondary and high school grades, such as lesson plans, student handbooks, and subtitles for educational videos, on all school subjects. This made me familiar with terminologies related to sciences such as chemistry, physics, and history, and with adjusting communication to a wider range of readers.
Publications
I have experience working with translating scientific documents and papers – including medical and pharmaceutical. I am also a volunteer translator for the World History Encyclopedia (formerly Ancient History Encyclopedia), with articles publicly available.
Writing
My writing skills are continuously refined – as languages are living entities, they grow and change, and Portuguese is no different. I can write using purely normative grammar (which has variations according to different scholars) or use a more flexible approach, depending on the intended effect and the targeted audiences defined by the client or by the source material itself. I also have experience performing reviewing and proofreading tasks on other translations, and even assessing the quality of applicants’ quotes for a given project.
CAT Tools
My preferred software is SDL Trados, and I can also work with MemoQ and Smartcat. This makes me able to work with several distinct types of files used within the industry.
