Source text - English Dhamail is traditional folk dance form of greater Sylhet, Assam, and Barak Valley .In this dance, the head is bowed forward and the head is lifted up, and it is danced in simple steps and rhythm, alternating with clapping. In the local language of Sylhet, the clapping of Dhamail songs is called 'Thapri'. Its music features kirtan and bhatiali organ. But this song does not have Bhatiali's long melodic pulls and kirtan-like rhythms, or complex rhythms.
Translation - Sylheti ধামাইল অইলো বৃহত্তর সিলেট, আসাম, আর বরাক উপত্যকা অঞ্চলের আদি এক ধরনের নাচ যেটা গান গাইয়া গাইয়া নাচা অয়। এই নাচো মাথা সামনে নামাইয়া ও উপরে মাথা তুলিয়া নির্দিষ্ট একটা ছন্দে এক্লগে নাছা অয়।সিলেটি ভাষায় ধামাইল গানোর করতালিরে কয় ‘থাপরি’। ধামাইল গানোর মাঝে কির্তন ও ভাটিয়ালি গানের সুরের লগে মিল লক্ষ্য করা যায়। তবে ভাটিয়ালির লাখান সুরের টান বা কির্তনের লাখান তালের জটিলতা নাই ধামাইলো।।
