First of all: compliments on the informative and beautiful screencast!
This is to inform you that many CAT tools allow loading glossaries with 118,000 term pairs into their terminology modules directly:
CafeTran
Déjà Vu
memoQ
(to a lesser extent: Transit NXT)
I think loading these glossaries as, er, glossaries (and not as segment TMs) can have advantages.

It's a matter of personal preferences. Since the Apple "glossaries" contain in fact quite a lot of longer strings (from the UI of OS X), they are better suited IMO as TM's (typically, for use with concordance search).
IMO it depends on the architecture of the CAT tool, whether portions of the TM can be used for auto-translation or auto-assembling.
CafeTran, Déjà Vu and memoQ can do this. I don't think Wordfast Pro can. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you're referring to DV's auto-assemble, memoQ's fragment assembly and whatever CafeTran calls that feature, then you are correct, Wordfast Pro hasn't got it. Not a big loss IMO, as it is only useful for some language pairs (definitely not with Finnish as source) and some kind of jobs (what I call "catalog translations").
Anyway, having the content of the Apple glossaries in a termbase rather than a TM definitely prevents being able to use them for concordance search in DV and memoQ (not sure about CafeTran).

Of course it can. Like I wrote you many times: it is most flexible. It can search 'everywhere': on the Web, in Concordance (TM), in glossaries etc.:

For those who do not afford XBench, there is a free alternative to convert .lg files from apple to individual .tmx files, then to combine all the .tmx files into one single .tmx file.
Steps:
1) Use this gist: https://gist.github.com/amake/27365b050935900cac09/
Download it under name: lg2tmx.xsl
2) You need also msxsl tool from here:

3) Apply the xlst transformation to each individual lg file using msxsl (create "converted" folder):
msxsl.exe file.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\file.tmx
(run this from cmd terminal in the same directory with for all lg files).
msxsl.exe and lg2tmx.xsl must be in the same directory with all .lg files
A batch file can be created to generate all at once, with the command:
dir /B *.lg > convert.bat
and then with an editor ((Notepad++) replace each line from this file convert.bat to look like
File.lg to msxsl.exe File.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\file.tmx
File convert.bat should look like this:
msxsl.exe File1.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\File1.tmx
msxsl.exe File2.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\File2.tmx
msxsl.exe File3.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\File3.tmx
msxsl.exe File4.lg lg2tmx.xsl -o \converted\File4.tmx
etc...
Then launch convert.bat which shall convert all .lg files at once.
4) In case it is not already available on your system, you need to install java from:

5) Then you need to combine all tmx in one file. Use this:

6) Then you import the resulted .tmx file in Olifant which you take from here:

7) And you remove the duplicates using this :

8) Then you import the big .tmx fil in memoQ as a translation memory (TM) .
