Hello,

I am a freelance Lawyer-Linguist and legal translator, based in Luxembourg. Active in translations from English to Portuguese, French to Portuguese, Spanish to Portuguese, including both Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese.

I would like to exchange input with fellow lawyer-linguists and legal translators. What CAT and TM tools and dictionaries do you use?

Currently, I´m using SDL Trados Studio 2014, testing WordFast and Wordbee. I´m planning to invest in quality TM´s but I need some guidance.

What tools should I have? And how much should I invest?

I also use Trados and despite its many glitches I am (mostly) happy with it. It also seems to be the most commonly accepted CAT tool when needing to exchange files and whatnot.

As for sites, I use WordReference and Proz for run of the mill kinds of terminology. If I encounter something more challening, I just poke around the internet. I usually find what I am looking for.

I don't use anything else but internet resources and Trados, and that's worked great for me so far... oh, I do suppose I use Adobe Acrobat Pro to convert pdfs to .doc files, that is useful (I don't remember if it costs or not).

I'm also interested in getting some advice on this subject, because I should be lawyer by September, as long as I pass the Bar Exam.

Right now I'm testing out Fluency and the online legal translator's dictionary, plus Google, of course, but it is very slow. I just got a monolingual dictionary and thesaurus, and I'm finding those helpful too.
