There, is where you should invest your time to do something professional.

Hi, Fernando: Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas. I agree with you that it would be better to point to an own domain. However, I believe there is a downside about this.

The ProZ profile page ranks directly at level 4/10 at Google, a ranking I believe it will be very difficult to obtain for an individual with very little knowledge of SEO and not much time to investigate about it either.

If someone use the keywords translation railway technology, I will rank very near to the top by Google: http://www.google.es/search?q=translation%20railway%20technologie&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&client=firefox-a&rlz=1R1GGLL_es___ES378.

Do you think I would be able to get such ranking or higher at an own domain?

Should this question be asked at all in a public forum? Jul 5, 2010

What is the point in asking all and sundry about their opinion of your profile? What is the opinion of people you don't know really worth in the end? IMHO, it would make much more sense to contact a few trusted colleagues directly as you're more likely to get valuable input from them.

Plus, think about what would happen if even a fraction of members started posting the same question in the forums.

My two cents worth.

Well, use your profile in Prozdotcom, to be found, but don't let the potential client with a possible bad taste about your skills cause a cheap layout presentation. Once found, the client would be just a clic away from your domain.

Rebekka, thanks for share your opinion. Answering to your question about if this question should be asked at all in a public forum, I believe that it should not matter to you as ProZ has moderators for this. Please, feel free to call his attention about this thread, if you believe this thread is off topic or it does not follow the Proz rules.

With all due respect to your opinion, that of course I do not share, the opinion of colleagues I do not know has the same value as gold for me. First of all, because his assessment will be probably more objective and impartial than that of acquaintances or cronies.

Moreover, there is no need that each ProZ member ask the same question at the forums (I have seen recurrent questions that are asked by far more than this one). But, I believe that the information contained at this thread may be useful for me as like for anyone interested too.

My devalued two cents...

I don't feel that your post is against the rules, if I did I would have called a moderator to the topic. It was more that I personally wouldn't ask for this kind of input in a public forum but would ask trusted colleagues in the first instance. That's the main point I wanted to share.

Good luck putting together your (new) profile.

I see you translate from German to Dutch - does the expression "seinen Senf dazu geben" mean anything to you? That's what this means, too At least, that's how I'm using it. It kind of means, my humble opinion.

The last time I made an honest comment in the forum about a colleague's profile, it cost me a 12-month ban from the forum. So I tread with exquisite care...

3. Don't publish any of your own writings in English.

4. Build your profile entirely in Spanish - and then ask your Spanish-speaking colleagues to comment on it. (Unless you prefer Catalan, of course...).

5. You need a shorter, but bi/multi-lingual, keyword list.

PS - OT: And, please, put a different title at the top of each of your posts here in the forum, instead of simply repeating the thread title, so we can easily refer back to specific posts if necessary.

Thanks for sharing your ideas Robin. They seem good food for thought to me. And I am sorry, if you had some problems with Big Brother. 12-month seems a quite long period to me.

At the same time, I would like to thank everybody for share his/here suggestions, ideas or criticism. Thanks to your help, it is quite clear to me that I should rethink my profile from the scratch. So, I will delete it for the time beeing and consider this thread as finished.

Once again, thank you very much everybody for your generous support.

Why is the image of the train clickable?

If you click on it you get to a page with yet another picture of this train and some dodgy advertising ("Hol dir jezt den verbotenen Nacktscanner" in German) and something about palm reading which seems, well, less than professional IMHO.

I can't comment on the text since there is none.

@inkweaver: Thank you very much for calling my attention to this. I did not knew that the image was clickable. When I click on the image it leads me to the photobucket's homepage, but there is no such advertising. I guess that this can only be seen from outside browsers.

As you may read in the posts before, due to the critical but useful and honest comments, I decided to delete and to redefine the profile from the scratch for the time beeing (this is the reason why there is no text) and consider this thread as finished. Once more, thanks a lot.
