Hello everyone
Longtime lurker, first time poster. Please be kind!
I'm going for a job using monolingual respeaking and I'm currently preparing for the test. Does anyone have any tips? I've done simultaneous interpreting before, does it require the same skills (minus the translation element of course).
If this is in the wrong place, then I apologise. Feel free to move it.

No, it's not the same as SI

Definitely not the same as simultaneous interpreting, in case you are interpreting English to English.
Online resources say you'll have to say punctuations verbatim uttering things like "full stop", "comma", which is just another big reason to say this is not like simultaneous interpreting. SI is rarely done verbatim.
Other than that, I can't provide further information, seems like a new, unexplored thing and AI-related.

Respeaking/Live Subtitling

Try to ask if there'd be a broadcast delay. It'll help you catch your breath.
Though I can't speak for its educational properties, ITI also has a webinar regarding this topic. Free for their members, £10+VAT for non-members.
You're attempting what is arguably the most difficult sub-branch of audiovisual translation. Godspeed, pal.
P.S. Respeaking/live subtitling has nothing to do with AI.
P.P.S. Happy International Translation Day! ▲ Collapse

Really?

Seems like anything has to do everything with AI these days.
I checked online a little, and it says that the additional purpose of this is that AI has a "clean" source text so it can translate into foreign languages more accurately and also so it can train its AI voice recognition software. This may not be the main purpose, but an additional one.
That online source must be wrong, and you must be right.
