kindness

I'd always thought "kindness" meant "human warmth" in English. As a matter of fact, the latter does not sound like a common expression to me. Not one that I have found in my intense reading in that language (exactly 40 years).

Look at this definition:

Kind
adj., kind·er, kind·est.

1. Of a friendly, generous, or warm-hearted nature.
2. Showing sympathy or understanding; charitable: a kind word.
3. Humane; considerate: kind to animals.
4. Forbearing; tolerant: Our neighbor was very kind about the window we broke.
5. Generous; liberal: kind words of praise.

Now a Google search:

about 40,600,000 English for kindness, and

about 144,000 English pages for "human warmth"

Please don't get me wrong:
I DO NOT mean to disqualify Susy' suggestion. Of course you can use it. It's just that I came to this question absolutely certain that I would find "kindness" as the first proposed answer! :)

Thank you, Andy. I know I will be out-voted. I just wanted to make my point :)
neutral Nikki Graham : The Google hits are totally irrelevant here. We are talking about an emphasis in meaning. And how you can actually say that "human warmth" is not a common expression is totally beyond me. The no. of hits you found in Google clearly indicates otherwise!!!

Wow, Nikki... From your comment to a past answer of mine I thought Google hits were meaningless to you. As I noted above, "human warmth" is a concept that I, personally, mentally translate "kindness." I KNOW you can use that and other phrases as well.

hola, te debo un mensajito :)
agree Robert Forstag : You beat me to this, Susana. I think that a literal translation works best here in expressing what is *lacking* in the home: not "companionship" per se, but "warmth".

thanks, Robert :)
agree teju : Or just "warmth", the milk of human kindness. Saludos.

Of course my first thought was "human warmth", a literal solution and certainly quite valid...

But this came right after it, and I felt it was even more valid, because "companionship" seems to embody the idea more than just "warmth". In Spanish it's fine, but in English it seems to be a bit weak.
Peer comment(s):

agree Refugio : I am not sure that "human" is needed, in the context: just companionship ... or maybe fellowship.
