I've found this term: PROJECT OVERVIEW AND WORKPLAN OUTLINE. Work plan, or workplan, is alo used.

Michael, I only used "project" because of my lack of ability to deduce what was meant. After your clarifications it dawned on me what was meant and I feel quite strongly about "BASIS OF DESIGN".

Не вижу предмета для несогласия. Проект - действительно многозначное слово. Но я, ведь, предельно конкретизировал определения в обоих случаях и сказал лишь, что для технического языка перевод слова "проект" словом "project" будет некорректным.

Извините за повторы и отсутствие запятых. Пишу на скорую руку. Технический проект - описание технических характеристик производственного или вспомогательного объекта или единицы оборудования и его потребностей.

Ни в коем случае нельзя здесь использовать для перевода русского "проект" "project". "Project" - понятие из практики управления. Им обозначается комплекс мероприятий необходимых для решения комплексной коммерческой или управленческой задачи.

Not really. Because specification is used in relation to equipment, machinery, process but not whole project. You cannot write "spec" for a project.

Проектное задание - набор требований, которым должен отвечать проект. Например, в проектном задании указывается, какой мощности следует запроектировать АЭС, на какую загрузку ее рассчитать. А в проекте предложены конкретные тех. решения (тип реактора).

I have just spoken to my husband who is an engineer. By context he says it is "basis of design". "Design specification" is not used like that in engineering. Hope this helps the asker.

it is "design specification" which is a description of the requirements a design must meet. There are synonyms, I grant you.

Michael is right it cannot be "project" - too generic. "Basis of design" more likely
