I am sorry Nick but that's all the context I have. I kept on reading to see if there was a clue on what they meant by "jeweled", but the text changed to another type of puzzle.

did you mean "jewel" "jewel" or "jeweled" either way I have a feeling this is just a sales gimmick to invite the shopper to purchase the item....
I must agree with Carmen Schultz, it is meant to inspire a idea of decoration or such. More context would be helpful. :)

Si es de plástico, no necesariamente tiene que ser cristalino pues hay plásticos que brillan y no son transparentes, y dependiendo del color en cuestión, el conjunto de factores hace que parezca una joya (e.g., hay tonos de joya). En el texto adjunto no menciona que sea cristalino o transparente. ¿Si no son cristalinos todos los plásticos, por qué hemos de asumir que lo son?

Ah, ya entiendo. Como es una esfera cristalina y brilla (como si fuera una joya) entonces le dicen "jeweled". Puras analogías.

Una característica de las joyas es que brillan, y a eso creo que se refiere el autor.
"brillante mapa del globo terraqueo", traduciría yo el final de la frase.

He encontrado varios globos para armar de ese tipo. Aquí publico un enlace cuya descripción coincide con la tuya.

Como puede verse en éste y otros globos "jewel/jeweled", se trata de un globo terráqueo de plástico brillante.
En otros casos, los globos son opacos, o de aspecto "antiguo".

globo adornado

La palabra "jeweled" se refiere a un Globo Terráqueo cuyos países y océanos están formados por piedras preciosas o semipreciosas. Se usa para regalos, etc. Según lo entiendo, el rompecabezas en cuestión es una imitación de este tipo de globos, ya que es de plástico, pero mantiene el nombre; por lo que traduciría "globo adornado"

Aquí mando una descripción que encontré de estos globos y fotos de los mismos.
