Sorry I was reading this as Principal (main) and vice...rather than 2 separate roles. However, the French equivalent is Président or in some universities, Recteur but probably safest to say Président as the role of Recteur is different in places

: Not necessarily; in UK universities, the 'Dean' is often the head of just one of the faculties, not necessarily the Principal of the whole Uni. I don't know if the same applies in FR, but in any case, I'd have thought this risked causing confusion.
