It should be "Boufeggous", not "Bouffegouss".

Yes - a variety is a proper noun by definition. It's an arbitrary name given to distinguish it from other varieties, just like the name of a person or a city. It's not a descriptor like "date palm".

While the names of date varieties may not be translated, there is certainly plenty of scope for different spelling from one language to another, and even within a single language, e.g. Medjool, Medjul, Mejhoul and Mejool (the Queen of Dates!) in English alone!

I believe the problem in this particular case, is that the French version offered here is spelt incorrectly and should read "Boufeggous", rather than "Bouffegouss".

"Boufeggous" certainly googles rather better in both French and English!
