Rahmencurriculum

German to English Other Education / Pedagogy examination regulations
.

It's about a language exam and the text will appear on the website. I'm not really sure whether I need to translate the "Rahmen" bit at all? I've seen the kind of documents in question. The Testspezifikationen describes the format of the test, the type of tasks involved and the assessment criteria. The Rahmencurriculum is more theoretical and academic.

Discussion

British Diana (asker) Jan 26, 2015:
@Ramey and Brigitte Your discussion was enlightening but neither of you entered an "Answer". In the end I may well leave the "Rahmen" out, as Konrad suggests.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 20, 2015:
Also... pertinent, applicable, relevant - but then it could just as well be omitted.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 20, 2015:
There are a few possibilities that come to mind. 'Structure' I suggested below, or the 'complete/entire' curriculum, or 'outline', or even 'supplementary'. It really depends on what exactly can be found in the shop, and it's relationship the the evventual exam. I assume Diana is researching exactly that at the moment. time will tell, or not.
BrigitteHilgner Jan 20, 2015:
@ Ramey Rieger Hello Ramey,
Thank you vor your comment. "Curriculum outline" originally came to my mind as a possibility but I've found out that this term is used for rather detailed instructions. Maybe "structure" is sufficiently "neutral" to make sense?
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 20, 2015:
Hi Brigitte So was habe mir auch gedacht.
BrigitteHilgner Jan 20, 2015:
"Rahmen-" in dem Sinn, ... dass man selbst etwas ergänzen, das Ganze mit mehr Inhalt füllen kann?
Ramey Rieger (X) Jan 20, 2015:
Good morning Diana! The curriculum structure and complete manual, inlcuding vocabulary list can be found in our shop.
Is there a supplementary curriculum? Instruction on subjects that are not necessarily covered in the exam?
British Diana (asker) Jan 20, 2015:
Thanks Thank you, freekfluweel. I am not sure whether this accurately describes the contents of my document , which goes into things like stakeholders' requirements, the type of language to be tested, intercultural communication, communicative competence etc.
It is perhaps more the framework within which the curriculum has been put together and not the framework of the curriculum itself(=curriculum framework)?

A curriculum outlining the….

Hi Diana,

whether I need to translate the "Rahmen" bit at all?...not really, a bit pleonastic. A curriculum is a framework anyway.

To contrast it with the vollständigen Handbuch, you could say…A curriculum outlining the….together with the complete manual/handbook…

Best regards

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Konrad. This is definitely on the right lines."

core curriculum

is often used in the US to describe either a set of courses required for studying a given major/minor in higher education or sets of standards, competencies etc (often for testing purposes) at secondary level.

framework curriculum

I don't think you should ignore Rahmen, and it has an exact English equivalent so you may as well use it.
