A ‘FOCUS RACE’ is a race where the club will encourage members to sign up and participate. The club is trying to increase its visibility and participation in CARA (Chicago Area Running Association) racing events. Since there are so many races, roughly one will be chosen each month to be a ‘focus’. The ‘focus’ races will be of varying distances and will include walking events if possible. In the past, this has been successful and some races had over 20 members participating.

Ordinarily I could probably take the injury on the chin and focus on rehab, but I am now just five days away from my Autumn focus race, the Ennerdale 50k. You will understand therefore given my current injured status that I am experiencing a fair amount of pre-race nerves myself. Will my ankle hold up? Review the Work You Have Done. Even go so far as to summarise it in writing. Look at photographs. A focus race is the culmination of a journey. Review where you have been to get you to this point. Remember the training you have put in, the hard sessions, the times you have pushed yourself in an effort to reach this start line. And know that you have all that hard work ?in the bank?. Taking training for granted is an easy trap to fall in to, being a natural state that all runners and athletes exist within. But remember that it all counts, and that there is an end result. You, today, toeing the line and about to put it to good use.

I don’t have a particularly great diet, but it’s pretty balanced most of the time. In the lead-up to a focus race, I do tend to cut less-healthy items, both to trim up as well as to further commit to the race.

My weekly volume in the build up to a focus race will sit somewhere between 90-120km per week or approximately 10-14hours, depending on how much vertical gain there is in that training week.

It’s not the first time the lead up to a focus race has left me feeling low. Before running the Boston Marathon in April, I had a similar sense that it had all been too much, too soon.

Pierwszy raz po wojnie trenowany w Polsce koń pełnej krwi angielskiej wygrał gonitwę kategorii G3 (dla porównania G1 to najważniejsze gonitwy na świecie jak Prix del'Arc de Triomphe, Dubai World Cup czy Potrójna Korona w USA). Na dystansie 2000 m rywalizował z ośmioma innymi końmi.

Camerun już wygrał Nagrodę St. Leger w ub. sezonie, bijąc wyraźnie konie trzyletnie (drugi był trzeci w Derby Indian General). Czy tak będzie również tym razem? Wiele na to wskazuje, bo podopieczny trenera Marka Nowakowskiego także w tym roku prezentuje wyborną formę. Wygrał łatwo w pierwszej części sezonu dwie główne gonitwy dla koni czteroletnich i starszych o nagrody Prezesa Totalizatora Sportowego i Widzowa.

Konie z Japonii, z rodowodami europejskimi i amerykańskimi, wygrały z dużą przewagą główne gonitwy na trawie, bijąc przy okazji rekordy Meydan. 5-letni ogier Just A Way, faworyt 3 do 1, wygrał o ponad sześć długości i uzyskał czas 1:45.52 na 1800 m.
