Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Sep 23, 2004:
Correct Answer In spite of the fact that this question has been already graded under certain circustances, I came accross the correct translation which was sent to me by Nancy Eweis. It is "rigorous imprisonment" as quoted in Van Hoof's Legal Dictionary. Yhank u everyone and Thank You Namcy.
Arabicstart Sep 18, 2004:
you have chosen "extreme confinement" which means the same thing only in law terms in English you use "solitary confinment".
Non-ProZ.com Sep 18, 2004:
Zarka: solitary confinment means the prisoner is kept on his own. This is not what is meant.
Arabicstart Sep 18, 2004:
Yes I have the correct term as I stated below "solitary confinement" in a maximum security prison.

best regards
Arabicstart Sep 18, 2004:
I SINCERELY HOPE FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS ...YOU DONT ADD THIS TERM TO KUDOZ GLOSSARIES. GOOD LUCK
Arabicstart Sep 18, 2004:
You asked for the translation in English and stated that it was "pro question" the answer you selected "extreme confinement" has never been used in the law jargon in the English language. My translation expertise is LAW.
Arabicstart Sep 17, 2004:
maximum security prison is the term used in USA government system
Non-ProZ.com Sep 17, 2004:
I know of "hard labour" but I am not sure this what it means.

Here\'s a definition from the USA:
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Hard labor
HARD LABOR, punishment. In those states where the penitentiary system has been adopted, convicts who are to be imprisoned, as part of their punishment, are sentenced to perform hard labor. This labor is not greater than many freemen perform voluntarily, and the quantity required to be performed is not at all unreasonable. In the penitentiaries of Pennsylvania it consists in being employed in weaving, shoemaking, and such like employments.

Some countries still apply this law.
