Removing the Sensor from the Stack
1. Switch OFF power to the sensor.
2. Remove the sensor in the usual way, ensuring that the grounding strap (earth wire)
remains connected.
3. With the power OFF and the grounding strap in position, disconnect the sensor from
the cable as follows:
a) Open the enclosure (see below for instructions).
b) Disconnect the cable (secure the bare wires in a safe dust-free manner).
c) Disconnect the grounding strap.

: Caution! 'tresse' = 'braid', which is only one form that the earth strap may take; here, it sounds as if it is more some kind of simple wire. / Some may do, but it's not a given, and possibly unlikely in this particular context.

pictures of ground straps look very much like braids to me; they certainly don't look like mere cables, but like "straps", i.e flat things

Discussion
Soemtimes, it can relate to the form it takes — something perhaps flat and wide, like a strap on a shoe or on luggage, or the strapping (banding) found round packaging. sangle, ruban, etc. One form this can sometimes take is indeed an earth 'braid' — a kind of flat woven conductor, usually uninsulated — as commonly found connecting the 'ground' to a car battery.
BUT...
we also talk about 'strapping something to earth', which makes no comment as to the form, but simply the function — the device needs to be in some way 'tied' to earth, the implication often being a more solid / non-removable kind of connection. I believe this is the sense being used here, since the parenthesis in the source text explains its form as being an 'earth wire'. In this sense, it is little more than a 'lien' ('liaison' in some more technical documents).
