Regolazione del contrasto
Contrast has a valuable effect [...] especially with the relatively new tools controlling local contrast—tone-mapping operators. One thing that digital post-processing has made relevant is the spatial range of contrast. [...] another way of putting it is that the contrast across a particular area of the image may well be, and often is, different from the contrast across the entire picture. Some people invoke a comparison with **wet-darkroom** dodging and burning, but this is not the same thing. In dodging and burning **under an enlarger**, local areas are either lightened or darkened. In local tone-mapping, the values of pixels are adjusted up or down according to their neighbors, and the effect is that contrast is adjusted locally.

camera oscura tradizionale

Discussion
The former distinction is for contamination reasons. You try to keep the dry area (around the enlarger, principally) dry so as not to contaminate the paper and negatives you are using to enlarge. The wet area is where you have the sink.
A wet darkroom is simply one with a running water hookup and a drain. A dry darkroom instead is when you do your developing even in a sink, but there is no place to drain the liquids. So you can even have trays of developer, stop and fix in a dry darkroom; in fact without them, what is the point? The distinction is that, for example, when they are exhausted, that you pour them back into the bottles rather than down a drain, which you don't have.
