Russian term

мыслереплика

Russian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature science fiction
I need some help translating this word, which doesn't appear in any dictionaries.

The context:

В **мыслереплике** чувствуется грусть. Намеренно пущенная в мыслеразговор или невольно выскользнувшая с некоммуникационного уровня?

Discussion

Sofia Gutkin Jun 16:
Agree with Mikhail This definitely sounds like telepathy, so of course these terms will not exist in the dictionary - the author made them up. It's like "doublethink" and "thoughtcrime" in Nineteen Eighty-Four.
It seems like they're using telepathy, so this would refer to a comment or response being communicated telepathically.

Internal monologue/inner voice

Have you ever “heard” yourself talk in your head? If you have, then you’ve experienced a common phenomenon called an internal monologue.

Also referred to as “internal dialogue,” “the voice inside your head,” or an “inner voice,” your internal monologue is the result of certain brain mechanisms that cause you to “hear” yourself talk in your head without actually speaking and forming sounds.

neutral Denis Fesik : "Реплика" is a turn in the internal monologue rather than the whole thing

Tele-response

I agree that we're talking about a telepathic conversation. I think ideally the prefix to be used with the word "мыслеразговор" should be consistent with the prefix used with "мыслереплика". So, although I like "mind-reply", I'm not keen on mind-chat. Maybe "tele-chat" and "tele-response" (with or without the hyphen)?
Note from asker:
Thanks for your advice JJ Shaw! Now I have a place in the text with a similar word - it's a made-up verb мыслекричит.
Peer comment(s):

agree David Knowles : I think it's a nuance in the response from the other person, not a self-reflection, and I can't think of anything better than "tele-response"!

Thank you!
agree danya : I think it might fit, especially if the broader context introduces the notion of telepathy so that tele- is recognised as a reference to it

Russian term (edited): мыслекричит

tele-cry/shout/scream/shriek etc.

Hi Sarah, thanks. I'm not sure how to reply to your note, so I opened a new answer.
I'd maybe turn it into a noun (see above) and use another verb with it like "to let out/produce/emit". Hope that helps.
