Spanish term

deposito en cargamento

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Internet, e-Commerce EDI, Order forms, waybill
SPAIN. Not sure what this rejection notice means, or whether it's a standard term (the other ones below are relatively straightforward). From the context, it appears to mean something like "an addition to the cargo"...

"Artículo rechazado - Reordenar artículo como ***deposito en cargamento***
Artículo rechazado - Reordenar artículo como orden a tiempo (JIT)
Artículo rechazado - Reordenar artículo como orden de entrega extendida (EDO)
Artículo rechazado - Unidad no valida de emisión"

@Phil No, I found definitions of ""drop shipment" in various contexts on Google. Lorena posted this link in an earlier query of mine, and it appears in it: http://ecomgx17.ecomtoday.com/edi/EDI_4010/el668.htm ... and it contains the same info as in your link. BTW, I still haven't found out what a "surge order" is, but I don't really need to know that right now...
philgoddard Mar 18, 2016:
It looks like these strings exist in English already, or have already been translated:

philgoddard Mar 18, 2016:
Neil When you said you found "drop shipment", do you mean elsewhere in the same text? If so, this has to be a mistranslation.
Taña Dalglish Mar 18, 2016:
@ Phil/Neil In principle, while I agree that "depósito" could be "drop", I am wondering if "depósito" has anything to do with "warehousing"?

I still think it could be drop shipment, perhaps a mistranslation of the English. Deposito sounds like drop, and cargamento like shipping.

@ Neil No, back to the drawing board:

GLOSSARY ENTRY (DERIVED FROM QUESTION BELOW)
English term or phrase: drop shipment; dropshipment
Spanish translation: (pedido de) remesa directa: (pedido de) envio directo del fabricante al detallista
Taña Dalglish Mar 18, 2016:
@ Neil https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_shipment
Drop shipment

Hi Taña I just managed to find that out, but now I need to check the translation of "drop shipment "into Spanish to see if it's right for my context. I've just posted it in EN-ES section...
Taña Dalglish Mar 18, 2016:
@ Neil https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_shipping
Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer, another retailer, or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. As in retail businesses, the majority of retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price, but some retailers earn an agreed percentage of the sales in commission, paid by the wholesaler to the retailer.

Hi Phil I really don't know, but it's a possibility. This client's software texts seem to be lifted from several sources and different languages, mainly French, Portuguese, Spanish and English. I found "Item Rejected, Reorder Item as a Drop Shipment", but I don't know if that fits here - right now I'm trying to find out what a "drop shipment" is...
philgoddard Mar 18, 2016:
Could it be a translation from English? The second and third items on the list may imply that.

drop shipment

See the discussion entries. Or, if you can't be bothered to read them all :-) see my reference below.

I think this is a mistranslation of the English "drop shipment".
Note from asker:
Yes, I'm pretty sure now that this must be the case - a dodgy backtranslation from English. Thanks again for the help on this one :)
