Tendinopatia peritrocanterica calcificante

Hi all,

I came across this in a medical report and I'm not sure of the best way to phrase it. I thought maybe "calcifying peritrochanteric tendinopathy" but was wondering if there's a less clunky way of phrasing it:

"Ha sido tratada por trochanteritis bilateral con infiltraciones y fisioterapia al presentar una tendinopatia peritrocanterica calcificante."

The report was issued in Spain and the target audience is UK.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No matter what, I believe peritrochanteric calcific tendinopathy is a correct literal rendering of the otherwise uncommon original expression. And yet, other than "transliterating" with an expression that is not found anywhere on English literature, I suggest translating with a common and understandable English expression that conveys the original idea. Just another option.

I believe your links might be a bit misleading.

The first one refers to pertrochanteric and intertrochanteric fractures, peritrochanteric meaning extracapsular hip fractures involving the trochanter -which is not really related with the case at hand.
Peritrochanteric hip fractures are defined as extracapsular hip fractures, always involving the trochanter and frequently with extension into the subtrochanteric region.

The second one is a reference to a clinical syndrome known as peritrochanteric pain syndrome, which is also unrelated to the case presented by the OP.
Peritrochanteric pain syndrome includes a cluster of disorders that cause severe pain on the side of the hip and thigh region.

Personally, I would still use "peritrochanteric" as they are specifically referring to this part of the anatomy

No trouble, liz. That is precisely what I am saying; both in Spanish and English (i.e. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_fracture ) reference to "hip" usually conveys not just any part of the hip but specifically the hip joint -(peri)trochanteric area. A hip fracture (Spanish fractura de cadera), when no otherwise specified conveys the idea of an upper femur [(peri)trochanteric] fracture.

The hip is the joint between the upper end of the thighbone (femur) and its socket in the pelvis. When a hip fractures (breaks), the injury is always in the femur.

Trouble is that the hip is made up of several bones and this is specific to around the trochanter.

Although both, calcific tendinopathy and peritrochanteric are correct terms, I believe calcific peritrochanteric tendinopathy sounds as a translation. The truth and the fact is that there is not even one such example to be found on English literature. Calcific tendinopathy of the hip (sometimes referred to as calcific tendinitis/tendonitis of the hip) on the contrary is a rather normal expression in English that conveys the original sense of "peritrocantérico" as related to a periarticular tendinopathy of the hip joint.

Yes, I would definitely use peritrochanteric, otherwise the findings or diagnosis will not be accurate if you use "hip".

Nope; it is "peritrocantérica", which conveys the idea of "around the hip joint". Usually, although a bit unspecific, as stated in answer, hip is used in this context to refer to the articulation itself as well as to the structures around it.
