Fresco y Gram para Microorganismos

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Health Care bacteriology
The phrase appears as a heading on a note which contains the results of tests that a patient has had at a bacteriologists clinic in Ecuador.´I think fresco refers to a fresh sample but not sure how it combines with gram. Thanks in advance for any help.

Fresh and gram for microorganisms

It refers to gram staining, a technique used to analyse bacteria: "Gram-positive bacteria are those that are stained dark blue or violet by Gram staining..."

I think "Gram" should really be written with an upper case initial letter, but this convention is often ignored.

"Fresh sample and Gram stain" would probably be the best option for the heading.

The specimen is mounted on a slide immediately, and then stained.
