Don't know but have hopes! | Jan 26, 2013 |
As I'm just going in to my second year as a freelancer, I'm hoping my work will increase. Last year Jan and Feb were completely dead, and this year so far has been good. Fingers crossed, but really, there's no way of knowing.

My incoming work is either steady or slightly increased. The main thing is that it's enough.
However, I am more relaxed about it in general these days since I started saying "no" to work that would end up being stressful, for example unrealistically rush deadlines, or scanned PDFs that end up taking twice as long to handle as texts in readily workable formats. I no longer worry if my email stays dormant and empty for a few days, for I know that, like buses, "another one'll be along soon".
The volume of work has been steadily increasing over the years. 2012 was the best year so far!

In the past I was receiving far too many offers, more than I could handle. So I have upped my rates to the point where I just receive the work I can handle. Of course, I still have to turn things down, but they know that they were just unlucky this time round, and that next time I probably will be able to take it.
remained roughly the same | Jan 26, 2013 |
The business has been the same year by year. I hope it would be better in the future. I know that the business world today is improving. Many firms can develop after crisis in some countries. In Indonesia has good of political stability, better education, and faster mobility. Some people say, "I have great expectation by this circumstances".

My work volumes over the past seven years in which I have been freelancing full time have risen and then fallen pretty much in line with the waxing and waning of the global economy. I seem to be in a small minority in this respect. I am hoping for better things in 2013.
The volume of work decreased in 2010 and 2011, but has been steadily increasing since June 2012... I wonder if the crisis is over!!!

It depends not only on the market | Jan 26, 2013 |
but also on your rates. If you are getting plenty of offers and are having to turn lots of work down, it's probably a sign not that the market is healthy but that your rates are too low.

which is also good as I am cutting down on my hours now

but has been slow the past few months. In general, it's been an upward trend.

Difficult to say... | Jan 26, 2013 |
...since I was out of action for a year with an injury to my right hand.
However, I have remarketed myself and am getting more work at higher rates with premium customers who reward their translators better for good work.
