Most of my clients are regular clients and many of them have their own preferences and systems for invoicing otherwise I usually invoice them once a month at the end of the month.
I usually also invoice jobs for one-off, new or irregular clients, on Fridays - usually my last task before signing off for the weekend. If any of those invoices get carried over to the following week for any reason then I try to make sure I've picked up all the slack by the end of the month.

And I think I've answered this question or some variant thereof before.

Once a week May 8, 2015

I have a routine of writing out invoices Sunday afternoons, with a couple of exceptions now and then for various reasons.
That works perfectly for me and my accountant.

I forgot to mention that issuing invoices is one of my favorite activities and I really don't understand the 'nonchalant' attitude of some of my fellow translators.

The worst part of my job May 8, 2015

is the invoicing. I never get to do them and when I do, it's usually for the last 2-3 months!

Monthly, of course May 8, 2015

Invoices issued at full moon get paid quicker. Fact.

It varies tremendously. Some after each job, some monthly, some quarterly and/or semesterly (that may not actually be a word, but YKWIM), even some in advance. And some I may forget about entirely if I'm not careful...

At least monthly May 8, 2015

Larger projects are invoiced soon after delivery.
Smaller projects are invoiced whenever I have time, when a reasonable amount has accumulated, when the client asks for the invoice (happens more frequently than one would assume), or within a month from the first assignment covered in that invoice.

Maybe. But as a moonstruck lady, I may get carried away with those numbers. Not sure my clients would appreciate it.

most of my clients invoice monthly, so i send at the end of the month. Some ask for invoices within 30 days of completion, as they have an automatic system. I usually invoice them right away.

As for the full moon...i did notice that this month, i received most of my payments near the full moon on may 4! of course, it was close to the beginning of the month, which is when I receive my payments anyways!

Along with the project.... May 8, 2015

I always send the invoice in the same email as the project.

Most of the agencies I work for pay the same day or in less than two weeks, so monthly invoicing would be counterproductive.

Delayed POs May 8, 2015

Many large agencies in India issue "POs" after the job is finished and pay on the basis of the PO issued (obviously!). So the invoices are raised after receiving the POs rather than delivery of the finished job. They play safe, the translators don't.

Perfect client? May 8, 2015

I have one client who requests my invoice at the same time as he acknowledges receipt of the work, then pops across the road and slips the cheque in the letterbox - sometimes before the day is even out...

In memoriam
With the translation May 8, 2015

I prefer to send the invoice with the completed translation. That way I don't forget to issue it and I know it's been received because the PM acknowledges receipt of the work (and hence of the invoice, sent with it).
However, some agencies ask to be invoiced at the end of the month, in which case that is what I do.
Like Yetta, I don't find it difficult to issue invoices and I don't understand why some translators apparently find it such a burden!

regular vs. one-time May 8, 2015

I invoice regular clients at the end of the month as they may send me several jobs in the same month. I usually don't invoice certain clients at the end of the month if the total is below around two hundred euros - I'll wait until more jobs are added. If it looks like a one-time job, then I'll invoice straightaway.
