great response in such a short time! Dec 12, 2005

I'm really chuffed! Hope to make this a regular event, perhaps every last Wednesday of the month. So if anyone can't make the first meeting, there'll be plenty more opportunitiesicon_smile.gif

date Dec 13, 2005

@tappitikarrassk: Yes, the date is fixed. I thought that most people going to a Burn's Night would have dos on Friday/Saturday. But there'll a date in February as well. If we go for the 4th Wednesday in a month that would be February 22nd.

venue Jan 10, 2006

Wow! I didn't expect that much interest for a regular translators' meeting. This is brilliant! But I think we might have to change the venue as the Filmhouse is usually really busy at that time of night and they won't let me book a table - not quite sure why not. If anybody has any other suggestions where we could meet somewhere central, please let me know. If not, we'll simply try the Filmhouse and discuss other venues on the 25th. I look forward to seeing you all there!

How about the bar under the Traverse theatre? I think it's called the Blue Bar or something like that. They do Erdinger...

Venue suggestion Jan 10, 2006

The Opal Lounge on George St has a room at the back with four tables x 10/12 seats each, each which you can book. Maybe 1 or 2 of these tables?

Though it's still a week to go before we're meeting and some of you have indicated that you won't be able to come this time but could those of you who are definitely coming set the "Will attend" option to "Yes" so I know for how many people I need to book a table. Those who are hoping to come next time, put the 22nd February into your diariesicon_smile.gif... See more

I'm still not sure as to where we can meet and am going to try once more to book a table at the Filmhouse bar. If not, could you book a table at the Opal Lounge as you'd know exactly which room in the back you're talking about. Please let me know.

doubts about opal lounge Jan 18, 2006

I had a look at their website a while ago. They seem to charge £100 for reserving the venue and they expect a mimimum consumption on top of that. Or does that not apply to the backroom you seem to know?
  What are these?

opal lounge Jan 18, 2006

not looking good, unfortunately, they have an 'event' on from 10pm. Do we have an idea of numbers at this stage? there are other seating areas available.

currently 9 confirmed Jan 18, 2006

but that could change once everyone reads their messages. Let's leave it for a couple more days. Maybe we could meet in the Filmhouse Foyer and if there's no room go across the road. But that would mean everyone needs to be there for 8 - perhaps not a realistic suggestions. Let's see if I can't convince them to reserve us a table in the Filmhouse bar after all. I'm going there tonight.

Just a suggestion.... Jan 18, 2006

I know it's not really central, but I organised meetings and booked tables at Avoca in Dean Street in Stockbridge when I lived in Edinburgh - nice, cosy quiet bar with a little back area that could be reserved if you're going to be less than 15 or so - a suggestion if you get stuck! I love the place - starting to get home-sick - 'twas the first bar I remember in Edinburgh stocking Magner's Cider, and I can't get my hands on that in Madrid!!!! Have fun!
