Bio
I spent three years in Brazil between 1995 and 1998, where I learned Portuguese to a very high standard. When I returned to my native England I took the Institute of Linguists' Diploma in translation, Portuguese to English, which I passed with merit. I have since become a full member of the IOL.

I am now living in the UK, so my English (target language) is bang up to date. I maintain my Portuguese by reading and translating extensively and by chatting with my many Brazilian friends here.

I consider myself a general translator, although over the years much of my work has tended to be in the areas of human resources, company structure, human rights and academic writing. In addition to the above, I am also delighted to receive work in the fields of arts and contemporary culture, literature, film and so on. I also consider myself something of an expert on most sports, but especially football.

I pride myself on being a human translator, with a feel and a flair for language, for the things you can't find in a dictionary.

A real linguist from the real world.

A full work record is available on request. Notable organisations I have worked for include BP (British Petroleum), the BBC and Amnesty International. I have also translated a book of poems for children, in which the target language had to rhyme!
My charges are as follows: 50 to 60 pounds per thousand words; 20 per hour DTP.
Keywords: human resources, business, human rights, arts, sports
