Source text - English Introduction
Darkness prevailed. The prophets had been silent for centuries. The Pharisees and Sadducees, using their power and leadership, had corrupted the worship of the Lord. They had exchanged the bright, burning fire of the Word with the gloom of philosophy, tradition, and formalism. The hammer of the Word, an instrument for building, had been exchanged for the battering ram of hatred and greed. God’s chosen people had nearly lost hope under the Roman government. Why should they worship in the temple of the Lord that was now turned into a den of thieves? What was there to look forward to or to hope for?
Then a great miracle occurred. The incarnation that had been ordained in eternity was fulfilled. The Word became flesh and dwelt among men. Jesus was born as the prophets had foretold, bringing grace and truth (John 1:14). A new Light came into the world, never to be extinguished. Here was cause for worship and adoration! Now there was a reason to rejoice! After despair, hope! After a dark night, the dawn of a perfect day!
Translation - Portuguese Introdução
As trevas dominavam.
Agora havia algo a louvar e adorar! Agora havia motivos para regozijar! Após aflição, esperança! Após densas trevas, o raiar dum dia perfeito!

Years of experience: 34. Registered at ProZ.com: Aug 2009.
I am just a Mennonite farmer who discovered my vocation as a translator somewhat by chance. It started out as a part time hobby and today I work almost full time with editorial work; translation, proofreading and copy-editing.
For many years I performed in-pulpit sequential interpretation in weekly bi-lingual church services, occasional simultaneous interpretation of overseas services received via telephone link and bi-directional interpretation of bi-lingual discussion and deliberation.
I was born in Ohio, USA, and moved to Brazil as a child with my family in 1969 and have lived these 40 years in truly bilingual rural communities in Goias and Mato Grosso.
My wife (Brazilian) and children all speak, read and write English and Portuguese with equal ease and fluency.
