Source text - Japanese
Translation - English There are also other advantages to the Tilting Device and these can be seen from Diagram 5. This diagram is a comparison of the 381 Series carbody vibration acceleration wave form when travelling over the same point at the same speed when the tilt mechanism was both fixed and moveable. The carbody lateral vibration acceleration when the tilt device was used are clearly smaller. The tilt device functions as a spring and mitigates the carbody lateral vibration acceleration.
Japanese to English: Traditional Musical Instruments General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Music
Source text - Japanese
Translation - English The Japanese Kokyu is now quite a rare instrument but there is one exceptionally famous piece called 'Etchu owara bushi' which has been handed down in Yatsuo town, Toyama prefecture. At the annual 'Kaze no bon festival' (Bon dance of the wind) from the 1st to the 3rd September, this song is played on the Shamisen and Kokyu in a procession through the town. Made up of musicians, dancers and local residents, the magnificent musical performance carries on through the night at every street corner and the emotionally rich atmosphere frequently appears in stories and popular songs.
