Ceramic pipe construction in Valley line (Niigata Prefecture drainage basin sewerage office)

The Level 2 capable 600 mm diameter German made pipe is used
In the valley drainage main line construction in the Niigata prefecture, the 600 mm diameter ceramic pipe made in Germany is used and the construction is promoted by the mud water type propulsion method of construction. The construction contractor M/s Uekigumi Co., Ltd has already completed the construction extension of 2 spans of 428m as of the end of this September. As the result of examination of the drainage pipes that are situated in an environment which is easy to corrode due to the discharge of the water from the hot springs, the Nishikawa processing section Nishikawa No.3 main line on the construction site, used a strong and an excellent chemical resistant German made ceramic pipe.
While the ceramic pipe (Ceramics) is highly valued, topics like “Poor constructional characteristics” and “Lack of strength” etc. the unsuitable images shadows it at present. The ceramic tube used was manufactured in accordance to the European standard EN295 by M/s Keramo Corporation of Germany using the special manufacturing method using the Vacuum state has a guaranteed cracking load 120kN/m.
While selecting this time, Steel sleeve of special specification was given in order to improve earthquake-proof efficiency. During February 2005 it was confirmed to cope up to the earthquake movement of "Level 2" as a result of the External pressure strength test and Water tight joint performance test based on (JSWAS A-6 SJA) conducted by the Japan Sewage Works Association Corp.
Although the curve promotion of ceramic pipe is performed overseas, there are few track records of the promotional construction in Japan. In 2003 the branch line of 300mm diameter ceramic pipe made by M/s Keramo Corporation was promoted in Gosen City in Niigata Prefecture but this is the first time a main line of 600mm diameter scale is made. In the Niigata drainage basin sewage office, an inspection team is planned within the year.
Enterprise under Niigata prefecture tackles import
The strength of the ceramic pipe when compared to the said “Earthen pipe” of the 1950’s has been improved nearly 3 times at present but it is kept at a distance by the appearance of a cheap and light vinyl chloride pipe.
Moreover this July, the M/s NORITAKE Company Ltd. which was manufacturing the ceramic pipes for sewer sludge, has withdrawn from the production and changed the plans to meet the supply by importing the ceramic pipes for excavation.
Under this kind of circumstance, M/s Aqua planning Ltd (President Masatosi Yamamoto of Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture) and M/s Shinetsu Concrete Ltd (President Yoshihisa Aizawa of Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture) jointly imported under the cooperation of the M/s Noritake Company Ltd.
M/s Aqua planning Ltd expressed that “The municipality will survive in the future if it uses the right man in the right place from the thought of LCC” showing the intention to work on the expansion of the ceramic pipe demand. Moreover it is considering the manufacture of the recycled pipe made from the combination of the local clay and Sludge incineration ashes generated throughout the prefecture in the future
